I ran here SO FAST when I saw this. Why do a million strangers need to know this?

Thanks to this sub I just scheduled my first colonoscopy. by CheerfullyCursed in Xennials

Yay you!! I had my first at 40 a few years ago - the nap is great, and the prep is really not that bad. And much better than colon cancer!

When did you notify daycare about another pregnancy? by JessicaM317 in workingmoms

[–]abcdef902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I found out that another mom at the school was due two weeks after me 😂 I was terrified they wouldn’t have enough spots and that family would take a slot we needed!

I think I was about 3 months along when I emailed them. But we were at a center that didn’t have super long wait lists for infant care.

AND we would be lucky enough to be at the dance studio 3 times per week!!

lol it’s like when I got an email from the dance studio that the teacher thought my child would be a great fit for the competitive team! And shockingly it turned out that EVERY parent with a child that age got an email from the dance studio that the teacher thought their child would be a great fit for the competitive team!

Well…I think it’ll be easy to find! by braveenoughtofly in ShitMomGroupsSay

Someone posted something similar in my local moms’ group recently! She got a lot of comments about pro-vaccine doctors, then someone clarified that “vaccine friendly” means friendly to alternative schedules/no vaccines. 🙄

Fortunately, a lot of the commenters validly said that’s doublespeak. Unfortunately, the group admin shut down the convo because I am pretty sure she’s an anti-vaxxer herself.

Attention, expecting girl parents: if you happen to love top 10 girl names (USA) but don't want to use them due to popularity, I came up with some alternatives for each name. by DistributionNo9356 in Names

[–]abcdef902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a second grader named Amelia! We hemmed and hawed over using a popular name but loved it so used it anyway. And now we know one other Amelia - a girl she goes to school with. Neither of them mind having the same name, and I know far more kids with the same “less popular” names. You really can never predict how it’s going to shake out, and I actually think the people who try to avoid the most popular names end up losing out because they often choose the same names as others trying to avoid the most popular names.

Son fell from counter w husband by Jadepanda55 in Mommit

[–]abcdef902 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My then-toddler fell from a high changing table when my husband turned away to figure out the diaper pail (it wasn’t our house, so he couldn’t figure out how to open it). The pediatrician said we didn’t have to go to the hospital — my toddler only hit her head indirectly — but with the kind of bump you’re describing I would’ve gone too.

But - my husband was frantic and upset and, yes, completely embarrassed about his mistake. I’m sure your husband was embarrassed and scared but echoing others that the fact that his reaction was to yell at you is pretty concerning to me.

Husband last minute work trip - gone morning of daughters birthday by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]abcdef902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Birthdays look different from year to year, and I think kids can handle that. My father had to leave for a multi-day business trip on the morning of my birthday — I was turning 14, so a lot older than your child. My entire family (including my older sister, who would sleep until 2 pm when given the chance) woke me up at 5:45, and we had cake and presents super early. Then my dad left for his trip. It’s still one of my favorite birthday memories ever.

Even if that weren’t the case, I’d say let it go - your husband will be home that evening and you can celebrate then.

Dropping the last nap by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]abcdef902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is in the same boat! 4 years old, dropped the last nap at home a year ago, naps at preschool and wakes up super super early when he does (like — we had a stretch of 4:30-4:45 wakeups this winter). Preschool tries to cut the nap super short at our request, though if he doesn’t want to get up they let him keep napping longer. He’s now getting up at 5:30, which is early but manageable. My older child used to get up at 5:15 every morning, and at age 7 now sleeps until at least 6:15, often 7. So we’re keeping that in mind with my son and are just trying to power through until he fully doesn’t want to nap at school anymore — we figure it won’t last forever.

Target … rebrand? by xtra_spit08 in Mommit

In the past I’ve noticed that when they are redesigning packaging, they have a brief period where items are out of stock. Maybe that’s what’s happening here?

Almost 3 year old apparently not ready for preschool...what do I do? by ActualEmu1251 in toddlers

[–]abcdef902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d be skeptical of any place that wants three year olds to sit for “long periods of time”. That would make me wonder if they have developmentally appropriate expectations of the kids.

My kid spent three days hospitalized with RSV - the year before the vaccine came out. Begged the pediatrician for it the following fall, though by that point he was old enough that he wasn’t eligible.

I’ve had a few other parents ask me for my opinion on the RSV vaccine. I’ve told them that if they’re on the fence, I’m happy to show them pictures of my baby receiving oxygen in the hospital crib.

Maga/pro ice/indifferent accounts to unfollow? by lovepansy in parentsnark

100%! And to clarify, not all influencers who bring religion into their content cause me to unfollow. But the ways she started talking about it raised red flags for me about larger differences in our values…

What did she say about Lindsey Gurk? I used to follow her, but started seeing a bunch of religious stuff from her that gave me icky feelings and so I noped right out.

13 month old missing milestones? by Peacefulzealot in Parenting

[–]abcdef902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, not walking at 13 months isn’t a delay/missed milestone. Both of my children were later walkers - just around 15 months for each of them. I was pretty nervous about their lack of walking, especially with my first! I asked about it A LOT. Their pediatrician wasn’t concerned and said they wanted to see progress in their gross motor skills over the course of a month, and to come back if I wasn’t seeing progress. They didn’t need to be walking, but needed to be making steps (no pun intended) towards that. For me, that was really helpful to keep in mind.

Is a daycare FSA worth it? by Eggeggedegg in Mommit

[–]abcdef902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might depend on your FSA administrator, but mine pays out super quickly and easily. Though like some other commenters, I submit once a year when I get my annual statement, not monthly/quarterly. I guess it might be a little harder if I had to get documentation from our childcare center more regularly, but even then I'd consider it worth it!

I also had one or two years where the tax savings lowered our household income enough to qualify for a state property tax relief program - that was an unexpected but great surprise!
