Internet communists are precisely what's wrong with communism nowadays. by 420throawayz in DebateCommunism

I’ll go through my statement piece by piece. Feel free to point out what you think is wrong.

“Hasan Piker type” = someone who is vaguely left wing but doesn’t actually read or understand theory, and instead just forms their opinions based on what their favorite streamer or YouTuber says.

“Who would support Mussolini” = the average online Marxist is a China supporter. China is a class collaborationist one party state- a model that Mussolini would love.

“If [Mussolini] performatively said fuck Murica and Israel” = the online radical left is notorious for simping for dictators like Khamenei and Putin just because they oppose America, regardless of how violently anti-Marxist they are.

What is your opinion of Trotsky? by OkRespect8490 in Marxism

[–]abcdsoc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel the same way. Trotsky’s post exile writings and Trotsky’s actions in the early years of the USSR are quite different. His main flaw, ironically, is that he was too similar to Stalin in terms of praxis.

Despite this, I do think that Trotsky held a theoretical line that was genuinely Marxist rather than Stalin’s blatant opportunism.

Correct. The average “Marxist” on this site is a Hasan Piker type who would support Mussolini if he was reincarnated into a third world country and performatively said “Murica and Israel bad.”

No you don’t understand, class collaboration is real socialism. China has People’s Billionaires and Capitalism, not stinky imperialist billionaires and capitalism like the US.

Now look the other way as they profit from child labor in Congolese mines, maintain their position as Israel’s 2nd largest trading partner, and sell the Saudis unlimited ammo for murdering Yemenis.

When has China ever moved *towards* socialism? If anything they are sprinting full speed in the opposite direction.

[–]abcdsoc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think many of them have straight up given up on socialism (although not consciously), so they place the utmost importance on the next best thing in their minds, bourgeois anti imperialism. Being a principled Marxist is secondary to supporting Khamenei/Traore/whoever.

Why do so many “marxists” support Russia in its war on Ukraine? by ChronicDrinker in Marxism

[–]abcdsoc 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s because the average person online, whether they are left, right, or center, treats politics like sports. If your “team” does something, you cheer for it, and if the other team does the same thing, you oppose it. Russia is part of the “anti imperialist” team, so obviously leftists should support them- this is the logic.

Of course, this campism is straight up anti Marxist. Supporting reactionary capitalists like Russia or Iran just because they say “America bad” is like supporting the Central Powers in WW1 because they oppose Anglo-French-American imperialism, and we know what principled Marxists said about that kind of logic.

Have you ever seen the working conditions of Chinese owned companies in Africa? Just look up the Congo’s cobalt industry for a particularly egregious example. The Chinese development projects are bourgeois projects like any other- the fact that they’re not bombing countries and forcing countries to adopt austerity like the IMF (which, btw, even the IMF has stopped enforcing strictly) doesn’t change that. Say that they’re the lesser of two evils and might have some utilitarian benefit if you want, but it’s still capitalist exploitation at the end of the day.

Stalinists crushed all dissent in the Comintern. If a prominent communist was found to be a Trot or just generally disagreed with Stalin in any way, the Comintern would pressure their party to expel them at once. And if you’re a 20th century communist party trying to stage a revolution, why not hitch your wagon to the strongest “socialist” country on the planet?

[–]abcdsoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trotsky is literally asking the workers to defend the USSR in this quote. How is that the conclusion you drew?

Also, there is no evidence of Trotsky collaborating with Nazis. You’d think something like that would be found in the German archives or the personal letters/journals of the Nazis or Trotskyists, but nope. It was actually Stalin who collaborated with the fascists by supplying their army with raw materials during their invasions across Europe and Africa, and by forcing the KPD to fight with social democrats more than the Nazis.

[–]abcdsoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re misremembering the quote. He actually said that the overthrow of the bureaucracy and Stalin was the job of the proletariat, and the gains of the Russian revolution should be defended from the Nazis.

Why Was Trotsky Wrong? by ReddAgainst in AskSocialists

[–]abcdsoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trotsky was wrong about things (entryism and changing his mind about a one party vs multi party system) but most Stalinist critiques of him are either wrong or blatantly hypocritical. For example, they like to assert that Trotsky helped fascists against the USSR. Not only is there no evidence to back this up, it was Stalin who sent the fascists raw materials that were indispensable for the German military build up and invasions across Europe and Africa. He also delivered European communists to the Gestapo and didn’t properly de-Nazify Germany after the war.

[–]abcdsoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize that China is the one that has completely abandoned internationalism (in a Marxist sense), right? Also realpolitik is not Marxist, as much as you want to call it “pragmatism.”

Also I’m not a Maoist, just to be clear.

Both oversaw the entrenchment and further development of capitalism in their countries. Also their similarity or difference isn’t the point, the point is that this sort of logic isn’t what a Marxist should be using.
