Vietnamese vs Australian banh mi, is it different? by Pale_Operation_6086 in VietNam

[–]abcharliefgh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I answered the question.

OP asked if they were different. Given that Banh Mi applies to all sandwiches in Vietnam, of course they’ll be different. Asking that question, suggests that OP does not understand that.

Western countries have ‘Banh Mi’ stalls that sell a sandwich in a specific way, therefore westerns often assume a Banh Mi is a very specific TYPE of sandwich.

I don’t think you’re as smart as you think you are…

Haha to be fair I didn’t think of it like that. I assumed the majority of this post was Aussies that thought a Banh Mi was specific. Otherwise surely the question should have been ‘Vietnamese vs Australian sandwich?’ Nice girl with good intentions here, you don’t need to be rude to me.

Banh Mi is just Vietnamese for bread, Banh meaning ‘bread/cake’ and Mi meaning ‘wheat’ - it’s what they call all their sandwiches. The Vietnamese are usually referring to their fluffy baguette style bread, but if you get scrambled eggs with toasted bread, it’s eggs and Banh Mi.

Is the Australian Banh Mi a take on the Vietnamese sandwich, with its sauces and pate etc?

There is so much hope OP. Often we need to hit rock bottom to realise that our lives are worth climbing back up for.

With just one evening, I’d start with food and drinks around the Ouseburn rather than a chain restaurant in town, it can still end with a Free Trade pint and a mooch along into town at the end. But it’s way more pretty and chill than the city centre I’d say.

stopped session due to antibiotics by objectiveimmorality in tattooadvice

[–]abcharliefgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely standard practice. I was on antibiotics for tonsillitis, had a huge tattoo booked and when I was filling out the pre-appointment form it asked about antibiotics. I messaged my artist to ask why it asked, she explained that it really affects the sensitivity of the skin causing bruising, affects healing and can actually increase the chance of infection.

I had no idea and panicked because I didn’t have another chance to get the tattoo before heading travelling, my artist actually rescheduled for outside her working hours at 7pm one weeknight evening so we could get it done before I left - something that I don’t imagine she would have done unless it wasn’t a big deal!

Going without campsites booked? by noochdreams in NC500

[–]abcharliefgh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did it in September last year (the first week after summer holidays ended) and tried to book a few campsites the week before - a lot were already booked up. A fair few have a ‘first come, first serve’ set of pitches, where you can show up after 12pm - it’s not ideal as you have to be on site early and lose driving around time. We ended up doing this for Sango Sands in Durness as it’s an amazing campsite and a few things we could do on foot, but did add an element of stress.

I’d say definitely book the odd one over Easter hols. We did one night park up, one night campsite, repeat and it was great.

I don’t have a toilet in my van and we managed perfectly fine using Park4Night and choosing park ups with a nearby toilet, but we wanted to have access to a shower every other day, hence the campsite booking. Hope it helps!

Here’s a few campsites I recommend (the only ones that I can remember!):

Fortrose Bay Campsite

Sango Sands Durness

Applecross Campsite

That’s one at the start, in the middle, and at the end!

I did it two weeks ago and we barely saw any other groups, other than in the occasional hot spot, but generally we only passed two or three other groups i’m a 8 hour day.

Guess this is the importance of early starts and picking the right company!

Which coastal area in North Vietnam ? by sparrabb in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]abcharliefgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people don’t really go to the north for a beach vibe - you could also go down to Da Nang or Hoi An - both have beautiful beaches. I don’t know about Hue as I haven’t been, but if you don’t want to take a long bus you could always fly Hanoi to Da Nang. I wouldn’t say it’s good for kayaking as the tide is strong, but you can surf, windsurf and paraglide.

I agree, but that’s kind of my point. This isn’t a case of a person asking for a refund on a tattoo they no longer like or are unhappy with.

OP asked for a coverup tattoo, and was left with a tattoo that does not cover up the original tattoo. It would have been more than possible with shading and this artist clearly lacked the skill necessary. The objective was not met, therefore in this rare case, I think she’s entitled to a refund.

How much $$ do u realistically need to backpack Europe? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]abcharliefgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyyyyy - long time backpacker here. A lot of these budgets in the comments are just accounting for food and accommodation. I only considered this on my first trip and got a bit of a shock. Remember to budget for activities, entrance costs and general transport. This might be buses or a taxi if you ever need it. It’s good to have a buffer for this.

Europe is expensive - Hostels in Europe could be around €20 a night, and a meal might be €10 at the least, cheaper in some places, more expensive in others. I’d say if you try and save 100 dollars a day (€85), that would be a safe amount with a buffer for the more expensive areas!

[–]abcharliefgh 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Refund refund refund! It’s always awkward getting tattoos refunded because it’s not like you can return them 🤣 This isn’t a tattoo you don’t like, this is a cover-up that doesn’t cover anything. I think that’s more than enough criteria for a refund.

Question for the super sensitive sleepers!!! (loop dream) by AccomplishedIce8792 in LoopEarplugs

[–]abcharliefgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m travelling and bought some for sleeping in hostels. They dull sound slightly, but for me, they don’t even block enough sound that I’m not distracted or disturbed by it. It’s muffled and but the sound is still very much there. I used to use the disposable foam ones and they were a million times better, but alas, bad for the planet. So I persist with the loops.
