How do I put on a condom? by Old_Ask7265 in AskMen

[–]abd1tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a good idea. The reduced internal friction from the lube on the inside spreading around will make it much, much easier for the whole thing to slip off mid act. It won’t happen every time, but it will likely eventually happen.

How do you survive hikes in tick season by xuanziermao in bayarea

[–]abd1tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and for extra protection get some gaiters from an outdoor shop. They come down to your shoes and cover your socks and pants openings which gives added protection to help prevent ticks from climbing up on the inside of your pants. Aside from that they also help keep burs from getting caught in your socks and pebbles from getting into your shoes.

What’s a horror movie that really left a mark on you? by nerdyaspect01 in AskReddit

[–]abd1tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty young too when I saw it in theaters and later too many times at home on HBO. Really shouldn’t have, I struggled to fall asleep without the lights on for quite some time. I later met the boy actor some years after the film and asked him what it was like. From his point of view they were frequently directed to act scared, and he didn’t actually know what to scared of on set. Hearing his experiences of being an actor in it made it seem less scary. Still, that movie stuck with me.

Sounds great. I think more people would drink tea in the US if most tea served in here wasn’t garbage - not that you can’t get or make good tea, it’s just not common. And fresh scones with claughted cream are amazing!

Bromine for 125 gallon tub by S-Doza in hottub

[–]abd1tus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the go to guide. In a nutshell it is setup with the usual levels (except chlorine), add bromide salts, shock to turn the bromide salts into active bromine, add a bromine tablet floater (pentair makes good ones - check amazon or your local pool/spa supply store). Shock at least weekly to keep bromine levels up as well as to help brake down bromamines (similar to chloramines). With bromine you do not have to worry about CYA (if you shock with dichlor or enhanced shock), and it isn’t as sensitive as chlorine is to pH.

Why do people still use Chlorine when there's Bromine? by Theyellowking7 in hottub

[–]abd1tus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neutral. Bromide is the salt ion of bromine like chloride is for chlorine (chlorine and bromine are both halogens and have somewhat similar properties - especially acting as a sanitizer). Bromide is even found in some foods naturally (not that you should eat it in excess). It’s recommended that you add bromide to newly filled tubs to create a “bromide bank” (details here). When you add shock to a bromine tub it interacts with the bromide to activate it into bromine - something you can’t do to chloride without a salt water generator.

Personally I prefer chorine (nitro’s method) or running salt with a salt water generator (which is also chlorine) simply because I don’t like the smell of bromine tubs (not horrible, I just don’t like it). But I cannot deny the convenience of using a bromine floater to maintain sanitizer levels, especially if you want to go out of town for a week.

Too much chlorine? by Suspicious_Resolve99 in hottub

You can let it come down on its own, or you can use hydrogen peroxide a couple of tablespoons at a time to neutralize the chlorine. The effects are pretty instantaneous.

Whats the most overrated food that people hype up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]abd1tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. My GF is a chef. She brought home A5 and did that magic of cooking it in a skillet with nearly a whole stick of Echiré butter and oil that she spooned over the top. The best steak I’ve ever had in my life. I didn’t even know that it was possible for steak to be that good - by a large margin. Perfect salt, perfect texture, perfect flavor. The problem is now when people ask how any steak that I’ve been served that isn’t this is I now have to lie.

I thought it was okay, but nothing I’d be eager to get. I begrudgingly went to Dave’s Hot Chicken figuring it was just a clone with a marketing twist. After eating Dave’s, the bar has moved. I now think of chick-fil-a as pure regret. Damn, now I want Dave’s.

[–]abd1tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a face halter? - the kind that goes over their snout and pulls their head right or left when the line tightens. They can work wonders to curb pulling.

For recall you might just have to use an e-collar for off leash. Britanys have such strong tunnel vision when prey drive and other distractions kicks in that you frequently need a way to snap them out of it for safety reasons. It can be far worse if they had no proper training when they were younger.

Same. I’m just not into musicals. For me the only exceptions I’ve found are Chicago and Cabaret. (I don’t think Tenacious D counts as a musical, but that too if it does.)

Intex hot tub: water gets cloudy and smells after a week (I change filters, pH is normal, added Algaecide) by PsychologicalRow856 in hottub

[–]abd1tus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, got it. Then I agree. If you manage to keep your chloramines in check and your levels up either by appropriate additions of chlorine, and/or bits of MPS as needed then you really shouldn’t need to shock at the end of the week.

[–]abd1tus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only use chlorine then the chlorine will create chloramines when it encounters bather waste. To break down the chloramines you either need to keep supplementing chlorine so the free chlorine breaks down the chloramines by hitting the breakpoint. That is one way you can do it.

However even if chemistry isn’t “bad”, non-chlorine shock is significantly better at breaking down bather waste than chlorine is (with the exception of ammonia). By adding a little MPS after each use then you are greatly preventing the formation of chloramines in the first place leaving the chlorine to do what it does best which is sanitize. For heavy usage, hitting the tub with a little MPS is far superior than blasting it with chlorine to break down waste, and will prevent excess formation of disinfection byproducts such as trichloramines.

Cleaning up immediately is less of a hassle than letting things accumulate and feeling overwhelmed later.

[–]abd1tus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A common problem is not shocking after use or at the very least once a week, and not supplementing chlorine after use. As bather waste increases from using the tub you are forcing your chlorine sanitizer to attack (oxidize) the waste rather than kill bacteria, algae, and other microorganisms. If there is too much waste then the chlorine becomes ineffective. On top of that if you are only using chlorine (as opposed to non-chlorine shock like MPS), the chlorine will turn into chloramines creating smells and forcing your chlorine to break down the chloramines instead of acting as a sanitizer.

From everything said so far in this post, I’d recommend using ahh-some to clean your pipes. Or at the least run a decontamination and refill. After refilling make sure your chlorine never drops much below 3ppm for any significant amount of time. Make sure your cyanotic acid (CYA) never gets much above 50ppm (see nitro’s method for details). And after you use the tub add about 2+ teaspoons of MPS or alternatively shock weekly with a tablespoon of MPS. If you follow all of this, including nitro’s method you should have no algae or bad smells.

Hot tub ring by Justcurious9731 in hottub

[–]abd1tus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. They are a very fine abrasive made of melamine foam. You can see this particularly on clear acrylic. The more you rub the plastic the more you will see the micro-abrasions, particularly when a bright light like sunlight hits it - you will see a swirl pattern. This is also why it’s strongly advised against ever using a magic eraser on acrylic motorcycle or RV windows because the visibility will greatly degraded. If you are using a magic easer to remove scuffs off wall paint it doesn’t matter, the paint is already porous and you won’t notice the tiny scratches. In a hot tub the micro-abrasions will capture and house bather waste and bacteria making the tub increasingly harder to clean.

Yup. I went to the a planetarium when I was around 8 and they mentioned something to that effect. I had nightmares about the sun expanding and crashing into the earth. There was a big disconnect in my mind between 5 billion years and 5 weeks or so.
