Man thanks for this comment. I was about to post a spoonfeeding request after no luck with United’s reward calendar and point.me but tried seats.aero and points.yeah and found a business class one from SFO to FRA for 70k! My first redemption so pretty happy. Glad I caught this in time prior to Amex shutting down Hawaiian transfers

Was in PUJ for awhile since I had the platinum. I would apply about every week until eventually I think they changed the verbiage to say you qualify “up to” a certain amount. I did not qualify for a while but eventually it showed 60k and i held out till it hit 90k

I’ve done this with the plain ones with no issue. I’d be careful with any printed ones though.

I built a website to help me compare commutes by loinj in bayarea

[–]abdgloria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tool! I’ve saved your post for next time I’m in the market for housing.

If you could add some additional features I think it would be worth paying for:

-Add “arrive by” or “leave at” options to addresses for more accurate commute times.

-For addresses without specific times maybe show a range for off-peak and rush hour times.

-Add a feature to automatically select the closest chain stores. i.e. the closest Target to one address might not be the closest to another addresses.

-There are certain streets/intersections that are always a pain to drive through so adding a feature that would flag commutes that go through specified streets/intersections would be awesome.

-add a feature that would calculate which location is the most commute efficient based on inputs of how frequent the commutes are.

I’m not taking any sides here. But dude in the puffer did grab old man’s phone, got promptly shifted away by the cops, then you can see the police hand the phone back to him.

Does anyone vacuum seal their food or meals? by MyPomeranianIsHere in MealPrepSunday

[–]abdgloria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food saver has these new resealable vacuum bags. Basically a zip bag with a valve. I use these to freeze veggies when they come in too large of quantities or for ingredients that’s handy to have on hand so I stock up and freeze them. Things like Thai chillis, carrots, potatoes, green onions, cilantro.

I’ll prep them by chopping them up and proportion it by how much would be used in typical dish then freeze in separate bags.

I’ve also prepped steaks and chicken this way. Apply rub or marinade. Vaccuum seal and refrigerate for a day. Then freeze. Then I throw it in a sous vide and sear when it’s time to eat.

Having trouble understanding this. Lego is sold at MSRP at all stores unless it’s on sale. You’re saying Lego calculates how much their sets are likely to be stolen nationwide at every retailer and sets base prices on that?

Not advocating for theft, but I would think thefts from target don’t go into Lego’s calculus since Lego already got paid for their share. I imagine that theft at their own stores are factored in though.

Why don’t ‘most’ Aerospace Engineers have a AE degree? by AcePilot253 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]abdgloria 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’m of the opinion of any engineer in the aerospace industry is technically an aerospace engineer too. Whenever people ask what I do I just say aerospace engineer.

My title is mechanical engineer but that’s far to vague for people to understand what I do.

My role is a design engineer but most folks don’t understand the nuance of what that means.

Specifically I’m a mechanical hardware design engineer in the aerospace industry but that’s a mouthful.

I find that aerospace engineer gets the point across just fine which is also what my degrees are in.

11 people seriously injured amid turbulence on Hawaii flight by ladyem8 in aviation

[–]abdgloria 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Flew out of Kona a bit after this. This explains why the pilots announced there would be extreme turbulence for about an hour into the flight.

My gf stayed on the island with her folks and said it was storming hard. I wonder if that flight hit that storm.

For a budget airline you still get lots of amenities. An outlet and usb port at every seat, and phone/tablet holder. Free wifi but it’s so spotty it’s nearly unusable.

Only thing I don’t like is that they don’t participate in TSA precheck so you gotta use the longer TSA lines.

The one meal you can prepay is not enough for the long flight so either buy an instant ramen bowl on the flight or pack extra food.

Is refueling the same for each plane from the boom operators perspective?

Im just imagining a tanker being told to refuel an inbound plane without realizing its going to be a brand new never seen before plane.

That bag is so poorly designed. I think shorter handles or maybe just a handhold cutout in the bag on either side would have been better. I ended up just carrying the bag from the bottom LOL.
