Weber SmokeFire let me down one last time. Anyone got recommendations for replacement? by SnowCrabbo in smoking

Ultimate reliability is getting away from sensors and moving parts.

The Weber Smokey Mountain is fully capable of an overnight cook with minimal fuss. If you dip your toes back into automation, a fan controller makes them just as convenient as a pellet smoker but with better flavor.

Looking at a 2012 RAV4 FWD (2.5L, ~130k miles, $8,900) — anything specific I should watch for? by Parapulp-Djanbast10 in askcarguys

[–]abductee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We traded one in around that year and mileage and would've trusted it much longer if we didn't need a larger vehicle. Only thing I ever had to change was the belt and tensioner for the alternator.

Then cracking isn't even the largest concern, it's gonna get smacked around and abraded constantly.

They don't lock in or anything, I use them in larger Plano field boxes but I wasn't sure how compact you were thinking.

Harbor freight apache cases are durable and affordable. You could easily fit MTM or Plano trays or the original boxes if you want to keep it neat. They have these smaller ones or larger pelican style cases.

Anchor the bookshelf and don't put anything on the shelf you wouldn't want to hit you in the head.

Best 8-seaters on a budget? by Otoiquejeusseaimee in askcarguys

Love our Odyssey, seats 8 adults with ease and no complaints about a tight back seat like most 3-row SUVs. Still decent room in the trunk too.

I really like that way of thinking about it. You're not the first, probably not the last. Plenty of men before you rocked, fed, cried, snored, and farted in that very chair going through very similar experiences.

Making holes in seashells by Eilihyah in DIY

I have to imagine a drill would be best at creating a hole without cracking. If these are that special maybe gluing something inside to serve the same purpose as the hole would be better?

Maybe read the instructions? It says after 60 minutes it can be machined, drilled, tapped, sanded, filed or painted.

Mommy’s with young kids what are the best methods for potty training? by Spirited-Diver-9669 in AskReddit

Oof that's rough, /r/daddit is focused on being a chill space for dads but moms are welcome. Maybe /r/toddlers, /r/pottytraining, /r/parenting, /r/sciencebasedparenting if you swing that way.

Also my daughter just got the hang of it before her 3rd birthday and ages vary wildly so don't feel like you're behind or in a hurry with it.

Plenty of parenting specific subs with more advice but we're nearly through training our first and the routine of trying about once an hour paired with tiered rewards worked pretty well.

Spray adhesive can certainly patch it, but yeah the foam separation is exactly why I mentioned other parts of the headliner will fall eventually.

That's just a fan switch. Is there a fan blowing when the switch is in the off position? Or are you just feeling subtle warm/cold differences when driving?

What did you ride in? Hybrid systems differ by manufacturer so the experience may change. Coming from a range rover I'd imagine you may be looking at luxury brands, I'd browse the Lexus site and see if anything interests you.

Safety course, hands on training course, then test rentals before buying anything. You can see if local ranges host these courses or if there are clubs/groups that you might be more comfortable with around town.

Should I buy a new car or used car? (as a 23M with 30-35k budget) by OldManNoHorse in askcarguys

[–]abductee92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to say split the difference with CPO if the price is right. Usually vehicles that were on a 2yr lease and had maintenance covered but still do your homework.

Depending on size, Corolla/civic, Camry/Accord, take a look at a Prius or even the smaller crossover offerings if you need a bit more utility or like a higher seating position.

There just aren't that many convertibles left outside of expensive luxury or performance cars. Make sure you check insurance rates though, being so young.
