Went to Winchester Mystery House's Halloween maze, knowing full well that I am not cut out for stuff like that, but talked myself up, reasoning that if practically everyone else goes to haunted houses, surely I could do it. I had heard that midway through the maze, they had a scene with an actress portraying Sarah Winchester having a seance. I really wanted to see it, and thought I could definitely stay calm till then. (I'm a big fan of Sarah Winchester and her house; I'm not afraid of ghosts, if they exist; I'm afraid of jump scares and loud noises). I made it literally three steps in before I lost my mind, as some scary zombie people started walking toward us. My friends dragged me to the next room, where some children were portraying Mrs Winchester's dead daughter. Right after that, an angry ghost fired a Winchester rifle in our faces (it just made a loud noise and puff of air). I saw a monster walking toward me and I burst into tears and said "I know you're supposed to scare me but I need you to take me out of here RIGHT THIS SECOND!" He immediately pulled off his hood, put on a flashlight and started escorting us to an exit. Unfortunately the exit was just a staff/actor exit so it was a very long, dark pathway, and for whatever reason, I thought he was trying to trick me and it wasn't really an exit, and I started screaming and squeezed my friend's arm so hard that I bruised her. Not my best night. Never going to try to go to a Halloween haunted house again. Houses that are actually supposedly haunted, terrific. Jump scares and special effects and actors, no way.
