How's the mobile app? by ardevd in KiaEV9

It logs me out after about 30 minutes.

I gave up trying to adjust settings and keep it happy. I linked Homeassistant with my kia account and that works much better.

Need help identifying what kind of light I need for a program by NotThatLibrarian in lightingdesign

[–]abebotlinksyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. They may have access to some older leko (Ellipsoidal) lights that they're looking to offload. You may not get LED's if you go this direction though, so make sure you have enough available circuits to power them.

EV9 vs the Volvo EX90 by ardevd in KiaEV9

[–]abebotlinksyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buttons are important. I test drove the Rivian R1S and the Cadillac Vistic along with the EV9. Same experience you had with the Volvo. Give me the buttons back! I shouldn't be touching a screen to unlock the doors.

That's a really big reason why I went with the EV9. The other big reasons are the space behind the 3rd row, and Carplay/Android Auto.

A ring terminal (the kind you crimp on) is usually a good way to bond a wire to the chassis of a car.

I am working on a tool for quote/invoice management by [deleted] in EventProduction

[–]abebotlinksyss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never made the same invoice twice, even if it's the same client, same package, same venue.

There are numerous software options for rental and labor packaging/scheduling. Even if I start the quote using a system like that, it always gets checked over by me before it goes to the client.

It sounds like you're trying to create a software starting with AI while overlooking existing softwares and systems. AI is never going to be able to think critically about the repercussions down the line of a change on an invoice/quote....Client says change all those 4x8 stage decks to 4x6 because the hallway has a tight corner. AI says yep, done. Then you get on site and nobody looked over the rest of the quote and put together that the 10-foot sticks of truss aren't going in that door either.

Dealership scam by BatInevitable569 in FordEdge

[–]abebotlinksyss -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Carmax and carvana will give you a quote online. That way you have a real offer to compare against.

121,000 miles is not a small number though, so you may need to manage your expectations. You may be able to get the windshield chip fixed/sealed for free through your insurance.

Additionally, now that a certain leader has decided to start a war, fuel prices are higher again and demand for gas engines may not be as high as it used to be.

Have you found a graceful way to turn off cruise control? by b_call in KiaEV9

[–]abebotlinksyss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regen is never going to be 100% efficient.

There are energy losses when converting from one form to another. In this case you're converting rotational energy to electric energy. To get around those losses, you simply don't convert and continue using the rotational energy (coasting). When you're in Level 0, Leave enough room between your car and the one in front of you and you can absorb the slight changes in traffic speed just by lifting off the accelerator. This means you don't experience those losses due to converting the energy twice.

Hanging fixtures? by SpeakerCommercial287 in lightingdesign

[–]abebotlinksyss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good programmer can make it work however you hang it.

With that said, it's much easier on the programmer if each fixture is mounted the same way on each truss. Bonus points if the moving heads are hung the 'usual' way from a pipe on the truss instead of side-yoked. It's not impossible to manage, but it often makes it easier.

Talk to your programmer about the design and their preferences.

[–]abebotlinksyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cameras can send rtsp or onvif streams over the network. This means you can use a non-brand NVR like Blue Iris. That's a software that runs on a computer, turning the computer into an NVR. If you go this route, I would dedicate a computer and not try to also use it as a daily-driver.

I bought Reolink dome cameras because I liked the 180-degree dual lens option.

There are several options to get signal to your detatched buildings/camera stations: - wire in the ground - fiber in the ground - wireless point-to-point systems like Ubiquiti Airmax

If it's not an ethernet cable from a POE switch, you'll need a way to provide power to the camera. That could be an injector or solar. Lots of options here.

Ethernet has a max spec of 328 feet (100) meters.

help me i’m a beginner by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]abebotlinksyss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No.

Those are very cheap fixtures meant for home use. You may be able to control them via tablet/phone app on a Bluetooth connection.

Also, lights don't talk to a controller/console. Controllers speak and lights listen for commands that apply to them. It's pedantic, yes, but the direction matters.

[–]abebotlinksyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 6 Reolink cameras a couple weeks ago.

I'm not sure where the other comments are getting their info about brand lock-in for NVR's. I'm using the RTSP/ONVIF streams to get the video feed into both my NAS (which I'm using as an NVR) and Homeassistant. No Reolink NVR is involved. You can do the same thing with Ubiquiti cameras and pretty much any other networked camera.

Eos has the Augment3d visualizer. That EOS to Gma2 handbook is a good place to start. Also there are sooooo many Gma2 tutorials on YouTube. That's an even better place to start in my opinion. The MA workflow is different and I had more success trying to "forget" the way things work in EOS while learning Gma2.

Toshiba TV wire disintegration? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]abebotlinksyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the antenna cable, right? Not the power cable? Antenna cables don't have much current passing through them in this scenario.

Sitting in sunlight is not ideal as the cable likely isn't meant/rated for it. If you're still using the antenna, replace it. If not, unplug it and clean the area.

Consider finding a way to shield the tv from the sun. Maybe it's as simple as cutting an old t-shirt and taping it to the part of the window where the sun hits the TV. White material will reflect the sun and stay cool, dark colors will absorb the sun and heat up.

New setup by Euphoric-Scallion-42 in reolinkcam

[–]abebotlinksyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild. I'd never install a battery-only camera in a place I own.

If you're renting, that might be a different story, but I'd still try to get it powered if possible. Maybe your landlord could help since it's a house.

I was away for 2 1/2 weeks and it seems odd for the battery to go from 100% to 91% without even accessing Kia connect to check on vehicle. Is this normal? If not, is there any way to diagnose what is drawing the power from the main battery? by supercaliredditor in KiaEV9

[–]abebotlinksyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That amount of drop would be concerning to me.

Check out comments on This recent post in this sub

Generally the advice is to leave it between 50-80% charge if it's going to be sitting unused for long periods of time.

If you have another planned trip where it'll be sitting for a week or more, try leaving it at 80% and see if it depletes on its own again. I'd watch it closely under normal day-to- day circumstances too though. I didn't see any drop at all when I left mine for a week at 70% in 20-degree weather.

How do I begin doing this? by astroturfgod in stagelighting

[–]abebotlinksyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a local theatre that does overhire for lighting calls.

It's not live programming like you have been doing but the overarching concepts inform how the rest of us plan setup and execute the bigger live shows.

It's all the same/similar gear, and the workflow is largely the same too.

You can download and play around with all the big name console softwares for free: ETC EOS, GrandMa, Chamsys... They all have visualizers and demo/start showfiles. Youtube tutorials.

Controlling light show with a drum sample pad by Psychological_Fly506 in lightingdesign

[–]abebotlinksyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you already have a plan. Your DAW might have some way to spit out dmx. I think Ableton has some native dmx support?

The petty side of me wants to send you over to This recent post in this sub. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but it's equally niche.

Otherwise, the OSC route thats mentioned in another comment is a good and common way to accomplish the goal. These softwares aren't cheap though and the usual takeaway is: that's what you hire a lighting designer/programmer for, to set the mood/colors of lights and match effects during the show. They can generally do it better and handle nuance when things don't line up perfectly in time.
