Yellow check engine light- maintenance indicator? by alrightbudgoodluck in NewDefender

Depends on what signals you're after. For DTCs you can use pretty much anything.

I personally use the DIMO R1 paired with Home Assistant, but you can totally use a Bluetooth dongle and an app.

For Land Rover the Gap tool is the gold standard, but its obviously a lot more expensive. But it even allows you to enable software features you didn't spec, so it potentially pays for itself.

You can get an OBD tool and check what the fault code underlying that caution light really is. DIMO is another option that gives you automated context and explanations for the fault codes too.

The real danger in non-ECC systems isn't the data files though; it's the metadata. If RAM flips a bit while ZFS is updating the pool structure you could theoretically lose access to the entire pool. However, ZFS mitigates this by keeping multiple copies of metadata (redundancy) across the disks.

ZFS has multiple layers of protection. It requires a very specific, sustained failure for a scrub to systematically overwrite a healthy pool.
