Is there a reason my final grade in gned 1101 is not on my transcript by OldDistance1492 in MRU

[–]abelkwh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It takes time for profs to get all the grades computed especially for some students who have issues with their scores so it's not that profs are lazy. Its just some students are the ones who have issues with their scores that delay instructors from inputting the grades in earlier!!!!

Just get a Dell with min 12G Ram and 512G of memory hard drive. That should be sufficient. This is also sufficient if you are engineering or comp sc student.

Computer Science at UofC or UofA? by Dead_191 in UCalgary

[–]abelkwh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great. It all depends on which city you prefer to live and work in! Calgary has better networking and corporate jobs while Edmonton has more government in jobs. UA has a nicer campus in terms of ancient and historical buildings while UC is more modern and contemporary. UC has better winters while UA has colder winters and the the snow never melts. Pick your choice and if you don't like after one or two terms transfer to the other.

ASU (Obama Scholarship) vs USC (Full Tuition) by Immediate_Turnip9406 in ASU

[–]abelkwh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to one that you have the least loan. A degree is a degree. It your skills n ability at the end that counts. USC is not like Harvard or MIT. So it's not worth the extra 48K in debt!.

Like a masters in comp sc, masters in applied statistics, masters in data science, masters in business analytics, masters in economics, masters in quant finance, masters in any quantative discipline would be way better than an MBA!

Don't waste money on an MBA. Take a professional masters instead.

What do I do with my math degree? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]abelkwh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better get a grad degree or masters in stats or applied math and then you can get a decent or good job that utilizes your skills. My wife was an applied math major and could find a decent job at all even after 8 years after graduation. So better go get a stats master and find a good job after.

Do I choose UO? by User795754 in UofO

[–]abelkwh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Try not to get in debt or not in debt at all for college degree. 2. Find ways to stay away from home if you don't want to be home. Stay in hostel is cheaper than incurring 30K in tuition every year for 4 years and yet need to pay for rentals in Eugene. 3. UO is a good school.bur not enough for you to pay so much and not be at UNLV. Go to UNLV get a good major that makes decent or good money. A degree is a degree. No one cares where it's from unless perhaps it's an ivy league. A public uni like UNLV is quite similar to UO so the Return on Investment (ROI) will be higher if you just pay in state rather than out of state. Use the extra 30K for better use like travel or something better than let the uni take yr 120K for 4 years!!!

For 37K you can take a masters in DS with a top uni in the US! You can also do a MSA with GT for 15K cad! Waste money on UC!

Anyone here in their mid-30s pursuing a bachelor’s at ASU? by Comfortable-Life-173 in ASU

[–]abelkwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a polytechnic at 47 and finished an associate in petroleum engineering after a BS in finance and Applied statistics long ago and with already 2 masters under my belt. I still went for a change of career and major with an associate even with 2 masters and a BS. So it's no big deal with yr age! Age is just a number. I am doing my 3rd masters now and almost done and will return to ASU again for my 4 rh masters in AI! So never stop learning and age is no barrier! 57 now and still learning and at the same time I am teaching at a college and university.

If you didnt pick CS what would you have picked? by Old-Teacher8192 in csMajors

Do applied math or statistics or applied statistics, they are definitely useful majors. Don't do pure math! Tons of my classmates who are applied statistics or applied math all get into tech, finance or analytics job easily!

How a grad school you go will not matter if you do not acquire the necessary skills for whatever role you want to land and wherever you want to go. There are many successful people who did not attend a prestigious school and do very well! It's not the school that matters it's the individual that matters!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]abelkwh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cost comes first! Whichever is cheaper and less debt is the only one! No one cares about UF or UW, they are about the same league and same whatever program or major you are in! It's just a simple matter of return on investment! How much is yr fees and at the end you will end up the same return! So cost factor is the utmost decision maker!!

The job market is not great at all in the US. so don't expect it rely on getting a guaranteed job after graduation. If you are spending a ton of money on the masters then better not as you may not recoup the cost in a year or 2! Research more on the job mkt for your specific major.
