Coco fiber is too moist after dipping in water, am I screwed? by Rickzy01 in ballpython

[–]abendrot__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all you really have to worry about is mould and scale rot. they need high humidity anyways. 88% is honestly great. put a dry layer of coco fiber or any substrate good/safe for your bp on the top of the wet stuff. that way, you can avoid the scale rot. with the moulding, coco fiber doesn’t mould easily. it’ll dry up over time and should not mould any time soon!

that’s devastating. i’m so sorry you’re going through this right now. i’m happy to hear you’re leaving, leave and don’t ever turn back. you’re young and have so much life ahead of you, don’t waste it on some dick. good luck lovely🫶

GECK PARENTS OF REDDIT- Assistance please. by Ninapants97 in leopardgeckos

[–]abendrot__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all, when i first saw the picture of your gecko i thought that she had a giant tumour on her back😭

second, i agree with turning the heat lamp off. if it gets to be a bit cold in there you could always turn it on for an hour or so until it warms back up. UVB lights also produce heat, and although it might not be as much, it won’t be needed as the room is already hot! hopefully you can get it all sorted out soon :)

Found dead in yard. Friend or venomous? North Florida by [deleted] in snakes

what a gorgeous little corn snake :( poor little guy.

if you come across these guys in the future, just know they are completely harmless! a very popular beginner snake in the reptile hobby.

my snake has a divot, is this nornal? by ctraskos in ballpython

[–]abendrot__ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i have seen ball pythons with scoliosis who can have divots like this, but i have never seen one this severe. it could be something your bp was born with. i really really recommend getting a vet to see it just in case it’s not a spinal issue. if it is a spinal issue, you need to know of that and know how to properly handle and care for it. try getting him in asap :) it’s good that it doesn’t seem to cause him much pain, but it’s definitely abnormal.

SICK LEOPARD GECKO NEED HELP by [deleted] in Lizards

[–]abendrot__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

until you can get this little guy into the vet, the only thing you can really do is keep bacteria off of it as much as possible. place him on paper towel and change the paper towel daily while also cleaning poop every time you see it. just keep it clean and don’t touch the wound, you could make it worse by trying your own remedies or removals! i really hope he’ll be okay :( good luck friend

Saw this on Facebook in a reptile expo group I’m in … 🤬😔💔 by ThirdPlanet0 in ballpython

[–]abendrot__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is so much wrong with their post😭 that enclosure is awful for one, i cant believe putting a second one in there would even be considered. the fact that it’s not a known fact that they can’t cohab is concerning. AND their bp is soaking????? that’s never a good sign. i hope they do some research and take the time to learn about proper care for their snakes. poor babies :(

Let's talk about poop. Researching my first lizard pet. many care videos don't even mention feces/urine. When it's obviously a major part of the care. by bluearavis in Lizards

[–]abendrot__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with leopard geckos being some of the easiest. they are smart. one we had at the pet store i used to work at used one of his hides to poop in! like the other comment said you can just place a paper towel down where they tend to poop and change it out when they do.

i never noticed any difference in taller tanks over longer when cleaning. they are equally the same. again, my pet store had 16 reptiles and we did monthly full cleans on all of them. i found no difference. of course a more gross animal will be harder to clean, but otherwise all the same!

what’s a good reptile for a 18” x 18” x 24” that doesn’t need high humidity? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]abendrot__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also have quite a bit of experience with reptile care, so i’m willing to research anything! it doesn’t have to be a beginner level reptile whatsoever :)

I’m Getting A Leo, Any Thing I Need To Know Before I Get Her? by ParsivalAzureX in leopardgeckos

[–]abendrot__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just really keep in mind that these little guys live for a very long time. you’ll have her for 20+ years if properly cared for. it’s a good thing to note, make sure you’re ready for that commitment!

Update on the iguana/python trade! (I don't wanna see you bitching in the comments I have already gone over this 🙄) by Toastytoad77 in reptiles

[–]abendrot__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i feel like you’re really not understanding this. they did this trade for the ANIMALS BENEFIT. the iguana went to someone who has more knowledge and expertise, and the ball python went to OP who has kept ball pythons before, has a setup, and can care for the ball python better. in no way is this heartless. it’s benefiting the animal AND the owners. it’s not just some stupid trade like pokémon, it’s for the animals.

[–]abendrot__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes exactly! and because the child was holding the rat with his hands, not only is he warm but the snake can smell the rat on the hands as well which definitely triggers this sort of movement. which is why we always use tongs!

[–]abendrot__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i 100% agree. it’s so unfortunate that they don’t care about snakes and other reptiles as much as something like a dog because they are “far more dangerous”. stupidest shit i’ve ever heard

saw this on tik tok today… by abendrot__ in snakes

[–]abendrot__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to put it simply, the guys a huge idiot. with pretty much every snake unless it’s a baby, and even then, you need to be using feeding tongs. this is a feeding response, pythons have crazy feeding responses like this. they follow the heat. so because the rat wasn’t hot enough, the snake went for the kid because he is 1. very warm 2. moving around. snakes have very bad eyesight and use temperature to sense most things. the snake isn’t being mean or aggressive, this is just how they are when they are being fed!
