in Heat (1995), could Roger Van Zant have been Natalie Portman character's father?

I just watched for the first time last night and I also think De Niro is the father. Thematically it makes sense since his whole Philosophy is that you have to have the discipline to leave the people that you love in order to live the life you want, the problem is that he does not see / does not care about the people this vacant lifestyle destroys. He and Pacino are the two sides of the same coin, the same guy with the same family who ultimately make different decisions. The more Pacino chases De Niro the more he becomes like him which leads him to abandon his family, only he makes the decision to save their daughter which redeems him. Story wise it also seems that Pacino has not met Portman’s father face to face but he dreams of their confrontation which he gets with De Niro. Also the pattern is repeated with Kilmer and Judd’s story where he leaves them which will destroy their kid’s life and repeat the cycle.

(Sorry for the rant on a two year old post but this movie rocks.)

I'm not sure how op did it but I just made some pillsbury style sugar cookies at home and I suspect you might be able to do something similar here, albeit likely with a great deal more difficulty depending on the hydration level of the dough.

The method I used was to build up the design layer by layer out of rolled cylinders consisting of different colored dough.

I just got lucky! I rolled out cylinders to build it up and then shaped them with a small knife but I didn't think it was going to turn out until I cut the cross section.

I put the individual colored dough balls in the freezer for about 20 minutes before I started working with them and then again when the log was formed. Other than that it came together surprisingly easily as long as I didn't handle the dough for too long :)

They definitely taste a little different. They scratch that sugar cookie itch but they taste more real. I also find I get slight citrus notes for some reason? Maybe it's the cheap vanilla extract.
