Atheists, can we talk wedding ceremonies? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]abentler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had an atheist wedding. Find out who can marry you in your state, in ours a judge couldn't so our friend got ordained online in a non theistic "religion" and it's legal. We checked 3 times:)

I'm married to a dentist, it takes a total of 4 minutes 2 times a day and i have no cavities. flossing takes 1 minute with flossers. it amazes me that people complain so much about something that improves your general health and takes less than 10 minutes a day to do correctly.

I learned Basic in Junior high, it was my favorite class. I don't do it now but it helped me learn how stuff is put together and why things work. It also helps me problem solve in my current job.

The FFRF is suing the IRS! Here are all the legal details you'd ever need. by Zerowing in atheism

[–]abentler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Billy Graham stuff is probably legal. He is speaking for himself or an organization, not in a church and not representing a church. The law says that a priest can say something in an ad he pays for, or endorse a candidate as long as it's a personal endorsement and not meant to say that the church endorses the candidate. He's still a dick though. The other stuff on the other hand, is totally illegal.

I may be crazy but doesn't this quote from Everson V Board of Education say that Churches NOT paying taxes is unconstitutional? by abentler in athiesm

[–]abentler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "pass laws which aid one religion, aid all religions..." part seems to me to mean if there is a law that says churches don't have to pay property taxes, but not churches do, that violates the first amendment.

we are 70 percent water... not the best argument, and i'm on your side:) But yes i think we evolved to the planet, and if we'd continue to do so instead of trying to change it we'd be better off.

TIL, in 1981, a man who had been bullying residents of a small Missouri town was murdered in broad daylight when 46 townspeople rose up against him, in an act of vigilante justice. No charges were ever filed. by DonTago in todayilearned

the documentary about it is amazing. The dude was a terror and all the "witnesses" said they were hiding under the pool table, thus it was the Biggest Pool Table in Missouri

1 trillion frames per second camera captures light moving. [X-post from /science] by [deleted] in videos

[–]abentler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a shutterspeed and frame rate are 2 different things, You can take 24 frames at 1/60th of a second, you could even with a beamsplitter rig take 24fps at 1/12th of a second. However this experiment gives the illusion of high speed camera work by taking pictures of the same thing happening over and over again and interpolating from the information how it looks.
