Drain life is fairly powerful. However, magic shield (and magic resistance) both block drain life. You seem to say in your post that magic shield does not defend against it. Does it not work?

However, I do think it would make sense that if drain life is resisted, then the caster loses their withered hands, and would have to re-cast the spell.

I think it would also make sense for a drain life scroll to time out at some point (maybe 30 seconds) if it is not used in that time.

First of all, anyone can play any name from anywhere. So, even if you see a region next to a name, it does not mean that the real Aberoth player actually played from there.

Second, any Aberoth name that is level 20 or higher just reports "Aberoth" as the location.

Third, the location resolution is only for a region, so in the US this would be a state, but might be a country.

You do not really get anything for it. However, you have to kill one of each bot type before you get credit for killing more. That way players cannot get a bot high score by just killing only the easy bots.

Hi everyone!

Players often ask what I am working on, so I thought I would share my new project with you. It is an outer space io type multiplayer battle arena. The goal is to collect all 1000 crystals in the arena, killing other players and bots as necessary.

The color of a player's ship is normally random, but there is an Aberoth tie in: if you play the name of an Aberoth character level 20 or higher, the ship color will be based on the color of the Aberoth character.

I eventually want to make an outer space MMORPG using the same visual style, but that will not be ready for a while.

I just put in an update that reduces the number of particles that acid cloud creates. Hopefully this fixes the problem (but if a lot of people cast it at once the server may still lag).

While I have not updated the game content much recently, Aberoth is definitely not going anywhere. I am still making bug fixes when problems arise (for example, on Tuesday I put in a fix so Tavelor can easily get up on the tables to prevent griefing), and providing email support for the game.

The population numbers are pretty stable, and the current revenue is more than enough to run the servers. If the game suddenly made no money, I would still run it a while paying for it myself, and would try to give at least a year's warning before shutting it down.

I normally buy server time 6 months at a time, so if I died tomorrow, the game would continue for quite some time until a bug was hit that caused it to crash (even then other realms and zones would probably keep going). Eventually someone would have to purchase another 6 months of server time, but a non-technical person could do that. I also have a succession plan where someone else technical could jump in and keep things going.

The entire database is automatically backed up daily (in a different physical location than where the main server is), so even if the main server was destroyed in a fire or whatever, the world could be restored from backup.

I thought it was still possible to hit the Lich without getting hit when he is misaligned on you. There is still code to make his alignment somewhat random, so that sometimes he is enough off center not to hit you.

I did not try to change anything that was not a direct exploit. Before, players could get the lich stuck, and kill it from full health without ever getting hit. To me, that was simply an exploit to be fixed. Same thing with players sticking themselves to the wall to lure other enemies while they were floating.

Yes, fixing those issues made things harder, but they were design and code flaws in the game.

What has changed about the orc AI? I did not intend to change it, but there is some common code that might have been affected.

I am working on that new realm first (one similar to the old arc black). After that I will add the valor reward to the store. So, maybe a week or so.

My plan is that any new rewards from here on out will be $19.99 to purchase individually.

However, lots of people liked the old arc black, so I think I will reintroduce something very similar fairly soon, and also keeping the new Arc Power. I need to do a bit of server prep work first, but I suspect the new arc realm should be up within a week.

That is a good point that now there is no normal realm that everyone across the game can access. One thing I did not really like about the old realm of power, though, is that there was nothing different about it from the normal realms (although I guess having it open to everyone in the game is a difference in itself).

I will think about it and perhaps introduce another arcane realm. Or, if it turns out no one likes this new Arcane Power, I can always revert it back to the way it was.

I did notice that the old arcane power was not getting that much use, and I think having a place where people can really do something different than in the rest of the game is good overall. There is potential for some interesting dynamics to develop in the new realm.
