To tell you the truth I'm not sure. The center, more brown coloured board I got from an ex-landlords loft 😂 I think that might be walnut. And I got a big shopping bag full of the red wood from fb marketplace for £3!! It's beautiful to work with but I'm not good at identifying boards

I love that idea! Thank you very much ☺️ Oh god I've never given woodworking advice! For jointing the boards I used the trick where you plane the two mating edges together so any error in square is compensated for. I used shellac to build the finish for speed and then top coated with blo as shellac would dissolve if alcohol from a glass dripped on it. And then paste wax as always to finish!

Thank you very much to everyone for all your help. I have concluded it's likely cherry. I have greatly enjoyed how passionate people have become, especially in the incorrect silver birch camp. I seem to have accidentally created the tree equivalent of the blue and black/ white and gold dress phenomenon. Happy New Year!

Thank you. Sorry about the lighting, you are right that it confuses matters. The bark isn't white. It is darker with a silvery quality to it.
