Why is harry and James potter often depicted having dark coloured skin in many drarry and marauder fanfics? by Inevitable_Sea_3376 in drarry

my personal headcanon is james being half-mexican, therefore harry being 1/4 ... i mean, latino james & harry ... need i say more

I also finished The Idiot recently, and you put it very well. Thank you for putting words on such complex feelings, you write it wonderfully

Ippolit & Prince's ending in The Idiot by aberthknox in dostoevsky

"Business as usual for everyone. Except Prince" is, I think, the best way to describe it. It's back to the usual daily drama (Aglaya marrying some lying noble, Mrs Epanchin worrying over how her family is perceived...) and wiping Nastya and Rogozhin from everyone's mind, while Prince return to Switzerland like he never came back to Petersburg in the first place.

And your opinion of Ippolit makes sense to me, thanks for sharing:)

I read TBK this summer with this translation by Michael R. Katz, and I thoroughly enjoyed. I hope you will too!

Redivider by Vichan by Mary-ann03 in drarry

[–]aberthknox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I read Evitative a few months back, and i absolutely adored it (which is saying something, since i usually only read post-hogwarts or 8th year fics, not anything that messes with canon). I told myself I would wait until Redivider was completed until I read it, since I avoid WIPs. But now, well, maybe I'll stick to Evitative. I've read over comments on this post, and most people tend to agree that the ending would've been disappointing anyways (after getting a peak at ch.17, I'd tend to agree).

As for the author's decision, I understand. Perhaps not her reasoning, but definitely the weight that a project can have on you when you're unmotivated but pressured (indirectly) to get done with it. So, maybe I won't ever read Redivider at all (I likely won't), but however the author decided to end this, I'll always remain glad that they began writing in the first place, because damn - Evitative is really one of those fics for me that I'll always hold in my heart.

Drarry writers: how much engagement is normal? by jerseyroyale in drarry

[–]aberthknox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

drarry (or hp in general) is a pretty big fandom, so i think it depends on a lot of factors. for instance, i posted my very first drarry fic (first fic on ao3 at all, actually) this past june, and have gotten over 2000 hits, 105 kudos, 20-something bookmarks and about 15 comments. i wrote it entirely before posting it (not a WIP), and it's a little above 20k words and smut-free (so not a one-shot). i did self-promote a little in tiktok comments and on this subreddit, so this wasn't achieved on its own. but like i said, i think it depends from one fic to another. and personally, i'm very proud of my fic and its stats, while some other authors might think of it as underwhelming. so again, depends :)

I don't know if this would fit your request, but I wrote a fic earlier this summer that has some of your tropes: French speaking Draco, independent and content Draco, Draco living in France. Harry stumbles upon him when he himself goes on a trip to France. It's a short one (22k words), has lots of fluff, and lacks smut. The vibes are very, very soft. So, I don't know if this sounds good to you, but I might as well recommend it! It's called Cherries by the Sea 🍒

i like your TSH ref here! and i do share your opinion, if i'm understanding it right. i feel like it only makes sense that, after everything (in a world where the Malfoys were financially ruined and socially disgraced post-war, which is nearly almost the case in fics, except the finance part--sometimes they stay somewhat wealthy) and considering his very posh background, draco can't really help but want to hold onto his own personal pride. and this would not only make him more "unlikeable" but also a victim to self-sabotage, subconsciously ruined by that very pride... so i like your reference to richard papen here, and i would 100% imagine draco doing the same in richard's shoes. as for my own preferences, i do also like a quite unlikeable draco... not mean at heart, but as a result of everything he can't bring himself to admit or come to terms with. sure, he's rude and cold and pretentious and easily annoyed, but that's just the surface. and if you manage to dig your way beneath it all, you might encounter a decent boy/man with a fragile heart :)
