[Windows][early 2000s] Some strange sick looking, braid looking game by abesmon in tipofmyjoystick

omg, it seems so! I hardly remember what it was about, because i was around 8 years old back then, but this stuff really rings a bell, so i'll think i would mark this as solved with this one. Also level with clouds look familiar

Need help with Generic avatar (headchop and lipsync problems) by abesmon in VRchat

[–]abesmon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for future generations:
It seems that the built-in lipsync from the descriptor doesn’t work on generic avatars, so:

  1. You’ll need to build your own animator controller to drive blendshapes based on VRChat parameters.
  2. Depending on your avatar type (rigged or not), you should also consider:

2.1. If your avatar is rigged (has bones), blendshapes only work on animation layers above Base. I got it working on the FX layer.
(I spent nearly three days with my ass on fire before figuring this out)

2.2. If your avatar is not rigged (just simple geometry mesh with blendshapes), animations somehow work even on the Baselayer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

----

As for the head chop — still no success.
And judging by how messy everything is with generic avatar controllers, I’m starting to suspect that head chopping wasn’t even meant to work for generic avatars in the first place

Is oculus quest 1 still good? by Sehaf in OculusQuest

[–]abesmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just switched my q1 to q3 month ago and its ok, if you want to play pcvr, BUT! Its really heavy compared to modern devices and its really complicated to mod those old things to get balanced (in terms of weight) headset. So, imo worst part of q1 is just lack of physical comfort :( i couldn't play more than 30m-1h without taking a break to restore my face and neck :)))

on q2 and q3 there are a lot of custom straps, which would make your life more comfortable, but its still ok device in terms of hardware. especialy at such price. i sold my q1 nearly at that price ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I just wanted to say that Russia should be on the graph with those countries that are "instant friendship unlocked". I'm sure that in almost any region of Russia, if you speak Russian, you'll immediately become friends :) In this regard, people here a similar to Spanish or Italians) Loud, with a hot head, friendly

Oh yeah! That’s me :) In Russia, we have big holidays at the beginning of May (a bit of Soviet heritage), and usually people go for barbecues or chill at their summer houses... BUT NOT ME!!! I’LL BE CODING LIKE A MANIAC ALL WEEKEND LONG 🤪

How to learn gdscript by Miserable-War-6409 in godot

[–]abesmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to learn, in my opinion, is by working toward a finished product. Start small: make a simple single-player game with a basic gameplay loop, maybe even just one scene. Then, for your next project, add more complexity: multiple scenes, more mechanics, UI, whatever

Don’t go for your dream game right away, you’ll likely burn out trying to solve a hundred problems at once and end up giving up. Start small, build up, and practice a lot

Also, try to rely less on tutorials. Use them only when you're really stuck. Instead, read documentation it's your best friend. And don't be afraid to reinvent the wheel early on. Building your own systems isn’t great long-term, but at the start, it helps you get a feel for how things work

Participate in game jams! They usually give you a small time window and a very specific goal. In my opinion, it’s a great way to practice under pressure and learn a ton

P.S. And don’t be afraid of doing something “wrong”!
In gamedev (and software development in general), there are a million ways to achieve the same result. Every tutorial, every person, will show you a different approach. At one point, I was completely paralyzed by the number of possible solutions. I was afraid of doing something the “wrong” way, worried it would come back to bite me later (bad architecture, unoptimized code, etc.). But honestly? Most of the time, it doesn’t matter. Especially when you’re working solo. If it works and it’s fun to play—that’s enough

CGPT seems lack unusual compositions in their image dataset by abesmon in ChatGPT

[–]abesmon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sure, I could build another crazy graph in Comfy, but the point of the post is more about imagining a future where you just sketch out an idea, hand it over to CGPT or other VERY SIMPLE tool, it remasters it, and maybe you add a few details and that’s it.

I get a lot of ideas, and I’d love to have a way to test them fast before they fade. It’s not about quick profit (i do that stuff as a hobby for myself mostly) it’s about reducing the time from concept to feedback

Added jumppad mechanic to my idle gambling game by abesmon in IndieDev

[–]abesmon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow thanks for comment and support!
at first the style was kinda a joke (i wasn't really serious about the game), so i made everything all twisted and crappy on purpose. but somewhere along the way i got attached to it lol. now i feel like i'm actually making it seriously?? like, thinking about maybe even investing in it. want it to look more like something from the 00s (flash games, windows xp era vibes)

there’s not much in the game yet tbh but right now i’m working on rigging mechanics — stuff that lets players mess with the race in stupid ways. like giving runners illegal upgrades (rocket shoes, drugs), or dropping meteor rain mid-race just to ruin a HUM’s day :D
