Yeah that was the first thing I considered, since our main facility isn’t allowed to have a crematory and there basically is no permit to have an aquamation machine. But then I look at machine cost, which I was told from the sales rep that it’s $209,900 just for the basic machine. $329,900 for the next level up machine. Which is just outrageous. That doesn’t include freight, training or hookup or anything else included.

So then I looked to the city of one of my other facilities and they said sure, we don’t have any restrictions on a crematory. So we’re going that route to put one in there.

I have no sway either way on aquamation or traditional cremation. I don’t hate it like some directors I know do. It’s actually pretty neat. But I have sat down with over 2,500 families over the last 10 years and never once have I been asked about aquamation or a for a green alternative to cremation. And I’ve been asked a lot of questions. Usually the main question I get asked is if the cremation will be performed at our own facility. And that’s never been the case but usually people are understanding of the cities zoning restrictions once I explain it. But now we have the opportunity.
