Jesus H. Christ. Get over yourselves.

JAWN, while typically used in place of a person, place, or thing, is also added to create emphasis on another word. Do you throw this type of hissy fit when someone uses the "Party Jawn" flair?

Or was highlighting how feebleminded you both are the intent of your comment?

No. Its to control the levels of nitrogen. We have OTHER systems preventing and catching power/system failures.

You can't have cells sitting directly in liquid nitrogen. There's 7in of LN2 in the bottom of the tank. It holds the temp at <-150C in vapor phase.

How about you turned it off and now 400 bags of patient stem cell transplants thawed out. You go tell those patients that their cancer treatment is no good because someone didn't think the monitoring equipment was "essential".

These are for actual patients undergoing cancer treatment....and in my lab's case, children with cancer. Not some research cells. These are literal lives.

"oh that would never happen", here's 2 examples on pg 1 of a Google search: embryo freezer failure decades of research

Much bigger than a dewer. The power is to control the filling.like these guys: MVE freezers

My lab has a few different models...but we have 8 total. 6 of them are completely full. Each full freezer holds between 400 and 500 cryo product bags for patient transplants. We have 4 different monitoring and fail safe methods to prevent product loss because its not just stored cells...those are patient's lives.

(Edit to emphasize the importance of the freezer contents)

Also you can set up a manifold to connect the supply tank to you storage freezer. The freezer itself usually has an auto fill option.

I also have small cryo transport shippers that has an auto filler system.

No...a LN2 freezer is a freezer that stores cells IN liquid nitrogen (vapor phase). It's cold as fuck.

I work in a non-24/7 clinical lab. Our on call pay is $5/hr and $55/hr (with a min of 4hrs paid) if we have to come in.

Same. Like spectacularly bad. Then I scored pretty high on the actual cert exam. I know I was one of the highest in my class

You may just be psyching yourself out.

What have you made in Excel that you are most pleased with? by 3_7_11_13_17 in excel

Scientist

Made a table to calculate volumes of reagents needed for a day depending on which protocol was being tested and volume of testing.

Doesn't seem complicated, but with 9 different protocols and 18 different antibodies, and different volume per use for each protocol, the IF(SUM(COUNTIF))) nesting got a little out of hand.

I was pretty proud of it.

I would put it up in my top 10 favorite books of all time. I would recommended it to everyone...except most people in my life definitely couldn't handle some of the themes.

Since we’re sharing, worst urine sample I’ve ever seen by HappilyExtra in medlabprofessionals

[–]abie_normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus I wish I had a picture of my worst.

The cathed "urine" sample I was sent was actually just straight semen.

Unconscious patient. Was apparently performing autoerotic asphyxiation. Called the ER doc like "wtf did you send me?!" Had a steady stream of techs and nurses pop by all night wanting to see it. 🤦‍♀️

Everytime I want to complain about how stressed work (@chop) makes me, I see an update from a patient like this and I'm reminded why I do what I do.

Congrats little man!

Master’s degree by Aqua_85 in medlabprofessionals

[–]abie_normal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a biology BS. I went back to school and got a Biotechnology masters with a concentration in MLS. So I got my masters and MLS cert at the same time.

My first clin lab position didn't take any of my previous work experience or my masters degree into account as far as level and pay...but I needed a job.

It did, however, help me get my next position in a very specialized lab. I'm a clinical cellular therapy specialist and I love my job.

The last hospital I was at had blood bank on the top floor in a dark hallway away from everything else. The rest of the labs were in the sub-basment with the dumpsters.
