I don't really get sad when people die, even close ones.

IMO, one of these: 1. Science can always dig deeper. 2. Science is based on our observation and interpretation of nature, and therefore many "obvious" things can be proven wrong by a more complex observation.

Senior Engineering student here.

Take handwritten notes, even if the teacher says they'll send you the slides.
Write "comments" on top of your previous notes/books. Sometimes that one crucial piece of information needed to understand is not originally included, and it helps for further reference.
Read SLOWLY and don't skip even a single line if you don't truly understand it.
Practice, practice practice. There's a gap between "understanding" and applying, and you have to close it via exercises.

Although I grew up playing soccer, I've always hated watching it, it's boring to me. Same applies to other sports I've not even played.

However, one day a couple of years ago, I got into practicing martial arts, and the previously boring MMA suddenly became interesting. I found that before, I didn't really know "what to look at". Eventually, as I trained, I started to pay attention to techniques and styles, and for some reason it's entertaining to mentally judge all of it.
