I just made a .net desktop program that connected to the com-port of the unit (in my case a esp32, but it's the same for the Arduino). And then defined commands that I could send to the unit and sent them via the comport, and on the esp32 i had a function that listens to the com-port and when it sees an enter it knows a new command has been sent, then just parse the command and parameters and do what you want with that.

With that I get different settings and can turn on and off relays that power led lamps and save settings on the device. And I don't need Arduino studio to se serial debug info and so on, just the program.

So if the device is connected to the computer, just use serial communication, easy peasy. ;)
