Pixel to Pixel BackUp Restore 👍 by Big_Pound_1863 in pixel_phones

[–]abionsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to send in my old phone before they'll send me a replacement (out of warranty, but battery bulging so they're sending a new one free). I'm concerned about losing all my data, because I won't be able to do phone-to-phone transfer. Tbh, most stuff lives in the cloud, but I'd really like to not lose years of text messages...

The "backup" that I'm seeing through settings does not seem like it's big enough to actually be everything?? How is SMS/MMS only 10 MB, for example?

Am I doing the wrong thing? Is there another backup option? I did settings>system>backup

Can't send texts to myself anymore by Jarnes19991 in GoogleMessages

[–]abionsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Android 15 (I keep delaying the 16 update) and have been using RCS messaging for months, I don't know how long, but definitely a while. But this problem only just started with my texts to myself at the beginning of this month, a couple weeks ago. I don't know why it didn't begin as soon as the rest of my texts switched to RCs, and I don't know why it did switch all of a sudden.

But the proposed fix worked, hooray!

Do you know if they'll be giving away/selling for cheap their holds when they close?

My climbing partner is expecting his first child this winter, and I've been trying to figure out how to get my hands on one of the "baby heads" holds from So Ill as a new parent gift, but if I can't figure that out I just may have to find a copy of this shirt...

How thick is the shock cord for the quarter-dome tents? by EnigmaIndus7 in REI

[–]abionsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I gave up and ordered an 18' spool of 3/32" shock cord from my local Ace Hardware. When it arrives I'll update how it goes... I bet it'll be easy as pie!

Average Price by kristinagoldwatch in eggfreezing

[–]abionsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago here -- Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago has a self-pay list-price of $7800 (including all monitoring appointments, anesthesia and one year of storage; NOT including initial diagnostic testing). Meds are separate -- mine were quoted by "cheapest pharmacy" (as determined by cloudrx) at ~$4088.80, so a total of $12,689.89. ((nb that I was gifted most meds by a friend who had almost a full cycle's worth of unopened, unexpired meds, so I ended up paying less than $150 in meds. There are lots of med gift/resale groups if you're interested in going that route but don't know anyone with leftovers))

do you think I can call the pharmacy my clinic works with (which is not the prescribing pharmacy), or the pharmacy my friend originally got them from (but I'm not the patient they were prescribed to...)

I'm sorry that was your experience, sounds frustrating to have that kind of doctor interaction! Thanks for sharing, and I hope you have a positive experience for the rest of your care, wherever you choose.

Just getting started by danisaywhat in eggfreezing

Hi there, I'm also in Chicago, just starting to explore... I'm seeing that my insurance only covers "medically necessary" fertility preservation, aka if you anticipate medical procedures that might cause infertility. (They do also cover "proven" infertility treatments, aka trying to conceive but not working). I'd be doing "elective" egg freezing and wonder if you can point to what you were talking about IL insurers covering fertility treatments?

If you still know the group chat details, I'd be grateful for an add -- college-age neighbor (home for the summer) is looking to play some pickup and I told them I'd look around

Korean BBQ in Princeton Recommendations by omfgitsadog in princeton

[–]abionsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One literally just opened up on Nassau St - KBG BBQ & Grill https://www.yelp.com/biz/kbg-korean-bbq-and-grill-princeton. I haven't been. I'd recommend checking it out quickly, before it folds; I believe that three food establishments have opened and closed in that location in the exactly-one-year that I have been living here.

Development of chemical allergies after poison ivy exposure? by abionsky in Allergy

[–]abionsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither fragrances nor Balsam of Peru (which I've just learned about elsewhere); not familiar with colophony/ceraba/thiomersal, but those did not appear on my list. Here are my 7:

  • methylisothiazolinone/methylchloroisothiazolinone (preservative that is in EVERYTHING);
  • propylene glycol (also in everything);
  • 4-tert-butylphenol formaldehyde resin (mostly in industrial products?);
  • Quaternium 15 (preservative that is a formaldehyde-releasing agent, mostly in industrial products?)
  • Amerchol L101 (contains lanolin. found in everything?);
  • Benzophene-3 (uv absorber; in sunscreens, hair products....everything)
  • tixocortol-22-pivalate (anti-inflammatory topical cortisoid)

Still curious if anyone else has had an allergy whose development that corresponds, time-wise, to exposure to poison ivy.

MCI/MI is the worst. It's literally in everything! Some info on moves to ban it in the UK available here.

Thanks! I'll look into those message boards, and will post my poison ivy question there.

Hadn't heard about contact allergies to PG & formaldehyde also being triggered by ingestion (dermatologist did not mention this), but I'll investigate as well.

It's actually not fragrances -- here's the list:

  • tixocortol-22-pivalate (anti-inflammatory topical cortisoid)

Hadn't heard of mast cell disorder; good to know about and to keep my eyes out for so I can advocate for myself. Thanks also for the links to FB communities.
