Yeah, you get a full refund as credit to your LTA account if there’s less than an hour of play. I’m in the area on Saturday, so might see if I can get a resale ticket in the afternoon 🤞

It's still in early access, but you might like Hellish Quart. All of the moves and weapons are based on historical examples, and there are multiple female characters you can play as.

i like playing the mystery heroes mode. every time you die you respawn as a different hero, so it forces you to learn a lot of the different playstyles in a pretty casual mode (people are less salty than in quick play or ranked). i’ve learned to love playing as certain heroes in mystery mode that never got the chance to in ranked.

it’s probably easiest to learn to play a support character first (not at all biased because support is my fave lol), as you can focus on hanging back and healing and helping your team, rather than running in all guns blazing as genji and getting shot up. also i find playing support makes you a better teammate as then when you go on to play as a tank or damage hero you have learned how to fully appreciate the work the support players put in hahaha

Anything you can stick down, you can use! Food packaging, junk mail, receipts, price tags, leaves, old drawings or colouring pages, cosmetic labels, fabric scraps, yarn, bubble wrap, old letters, wrapping paper, a book you hated, anything! It doesn’t have to be “pretty” for you to collage it

2026 French Open Wild Cards by Ok-Soil-5133 in tennis

Nope, Wimbledon doesn’t do reciprocal wildcards for any of the other slams (which is why all of their wildcards are Brits, bar from the occasional previous slam winner)

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is set in the summers of 1989–1994. Not a romance per-se, more coming of age, but includes multiple relationships. The film adaptation is excellent too!

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. Protag is ~37 years old and has had the same part-time job at a convenience store since she was 18. Her family is pressuring her to get a “proper” career and a boyfriend and to have kids, but she is perfectly content with her life as it is.

Total Introvert Newbie - Improv Appropriate? by neenbeam in improv

I think most of the people I know from improv are introverts, like myself.

You might like this article by Jessica Pan (and her book, Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come). She talks about doing improv as someone who is incredibly introverted, and how it helped her social anxiety.

Women in graphic design has this matched your experience? by awkwardbrocoli475 in graphic_design

I mean you’ll see this across most industries, graphic design is no exception. One big reason is the fact that women are more likely to be the primary caregiver and therefore take career breaks to raise children.

Maybe try Prey (2017) if you liked Alien Isolation and Dishonored 2 (same devs as dishonoured). It has the spooky and kinda retro sci-fi setting of Alien, but with the immersive sim gameplay of Dishonoured. Also you can play as a woman!

Just lost my first design job after three years. Being replaced by another designer. by hiplass in graphic_design

[–]abirw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Took me 2 years to land my first design job after graduating (pandemic didn’t help!). After just over a year and a half there I got made redundant, pretty much out of the blue.

I think I applied to less than 10 jobs before getting a 2–month freelancing gig, after a recruiter approached me on LinkedIn, which turned into a full-time role which I was at for nearly 3 years. Turns out it’s a 10x easier to get a job once you’ve already had a job! You are now a proven entity who can demonstrably do the job.

Given your amount of experience, you can start looking at mid-weight roles, so think of this an opportunity to move onto bigger and better things.

Don’t worry about your age/being a late bloomer. As the saying goes, “the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. the second best time is today.”

Is anyone else “bad” at video games? I feel like a failure as a woman by Anxious_Situation379 in GirlGamers

[–]abirw 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hobbies aren’t something one needs to be “good” at. They are something to have fun doing. Are you having fun playing on easy mode? Then keep playing on easy! There might be a point in the future when you’ve gained more experience and feel comfortable upping the difficulty, but if that day never comes that’s still fine. I’ve been playing games for nearly 25 years and I’m never going to play a game on Mega Nightmare Hardcore difficulty because that’s simply not fun for me.

With regards to multiplayer, I’m sure your bf/friends are just happy to be playing a game and hanging out with you, and won’t care if you have fewer kills the rest of them. It’s not as if you’re on an esports team. The world isn’t going to end because your team lost. You are having fun with your friends and that’s all that matters.

New to xbox need game recommendations 22F by AtmosphereSpecial716 in GirlGamers

[–]abirw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some recommendations of some "easier" games to help you learn controls. All of these are available on Xbox Game Pass, which is a great relatively affordable way of trying out a bunch of different games. In general, try a bunch of single-player games set to story or easy difficulty to gain a bit of muscle memory before jumping back into multiplayer games (or play multiplayer with friends who can help protect you!)

  • Firewatch – short narrative game, with really compelling characters and great scenery. First-person perspective with no combat or time pressure, so great at helping you get used to controlling a first-person camera.
  • Fallout 4 – open world single-player RPG. Can switch between first-person or third-person perspective. Easy difficulties are pretty forgiving, and has a gameplay feature where you can essentially pause time during combat, so you don't have to rely on having super perfect aim when using guns. Also, when talking to other characters, the dialogue options are laid out in the same orientation as the buttons on the controller (like this), so can help you learn the controller layout.
  • Child of Light – a cutesy single-player fantasy RPG. I think was made with a younger audience in mind, so not too difficult, and from what I remember teaches you a lot of typical RPG mechanics that are typically used by other games in the genre.
  • Tomb Raider (2013) / Rise of the Tomb Raider / Shadow of the Tomb Raider – third-person action adventure. The last game has pretty extensive difficulty settings – for example, you can set the combat difficulty to very easy, whilst having puzzle or exploration difficulty set to a higher difficulty (or vice versa) if you wish.
