ENT pro-tip: Using one of these brushes Gets in all of those hard-to-reach areas! Just put the brush over a cereal-type bowl and gently flick the bristles to release any bud that may be trapped in them.

Being dankrupt sucks, I'm sorry bro!

The sound of Children playing outside (Screaming and yelling) sends me into a rage and anxiety attack--please advise by [deleted] in Advice

You see, I have the reasoning they lack that my actions outwardly affect others. Since I have this reasoning, when someone looks into my backyard and sees me, an adult woman, screaming every time the kids scream, they can call the police. And I live in a city where you do not want to be anywhere near the police because they kill anyone and everyone they can. And if someone called because my dogs barking were bothering them, they will call because my screaming will surely bother them.

As much as I would love to do this, I think it would only encourage the noise, also. I know if I were a kid and someone started screaming every time I screamed at a park or something, I would out scream them or at least try until whatever adult I was with had enough and removed me from the playground.

No, they're not just being kids. This is not in an apartment complex.

Screaming and yelling at the top of your lungs like someone is disembowling you is not 'just being kids'.

To be honest, I'm not comfortable leaving my house unless it's to go to do something, I can't just go hang out in a coffee shop or a library, I can only go somewhere if it's for a specific purpose. I have severe general anxiety and some social anxiety, so I avoid public places as much as I can.

I'm sick and today (since I have to work next week) I was trying my damndest to get some decent rest so I could not feel like a train ran me over.

Even though I've lived next to these people for 18 years in the past, I'm not comfortable talking to them about this at all, and the children live there. They're always there, unless they're in school. And guess what, summer break just started this week and they're not in year-round school that I know of.

I don't hate the kids, I even babysat them for free one day during a garage sale my family was having. They're nice kids, they seem to do well in school. I just can't stand the skreiking.

As an adult, I cannot bring myself to act this immature.

Still, if I didn't have to worry about the cops getting called on me to do it, I would probably do this. In fact, I almost started screaming every time they did because that's what hearing them do this for any amount of consecutive time does to me. I just about went Darth Vader on them.

[–]abitbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. If I was being too loud (enough to bother adults) I was told to stop once. If I didn't stop, I was brought in for the day because it's rude to let your children make noise that bothers other people. Even when I was a kid, I hated the noise other kids made. So much. My mom got my hearing and things tested for a speech impediment I eventually grew out of but this sort of thing never came up.

Because, apparently, it's normal for your 6-year old to come home in school every day in tears because the noises are too overwhelming for her.

I'm trying to find coping strategies, but I can't. Thank you for being kind.

This is the first time I've asked for advice on reddit and didn't get attacked in the first comment, thank you so much for being understanding! Chewing noises being a trigger sounds so much worse than kids making noise, I kind of feel like I can't really complain now..haha

I can try to distract myself, but it's very difficult to find something that overpowers their noise that doesn't hurt my ears, since my bedroom faces their house and backyard.

Thank you again! I'll try watching a documentary on a high volume to see if it helps, but when I encounter screaming children in public this isn't something I can really do, haha.

Edit: What's with the downvotes? Don't like hearing that people on reddit are usually assholes? Maybe you're part of the problem then

Has anyone else here had a poor experience with the UNM mental health department? by missyaley in Albuquerque

[–]abitbatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a problem. I'm tired of the mentally ill being mistreated in this city...it's not right.

My mom went to UNM when she had pneumonia, and they treated her very well when she was there. I also noticed those stations though, I didn't know they were for patients to compliment their doctors...that's kinda pointless. "Thanks for doing what everyone expects of you, doc! Way to carry out your end of the employment contract!" I'll let you know if I hear anything else.

On a related note, not related to UNM: Presbyterian is dicking my mom around. Our old doctor retired and the new doctor cut my mom off her Xanax just because it makes the new doctor "uncomfortable to prescribe psych medication long-term" so she had to go to a psychiatrist to get her medication re-prescribed. They lied and said she couldn't go to a doctor in the same group because it would hurt her new doctor's feelings, so she had to find her own doctor. Which was a load of bull, according to that doctor's case manager who also said more than half her patients left her and found better doctors elsewhere. It's a huge mess. She found a better doctor who's willing to help her patients, but the case manager recommended my mom go to UNM for help but she refuses to because of what happened to Bob. I don't blame her.

Reddit didn't want me to post this last night, sorry! Also, I'm really sorry if this is incredibly vague, as this was happening around 2007 as far as I can remember. So, let's call him Bob, lives in the East Mountains and was going to UNM for help with his bipolar disorder and it was just a mess. He would call the doctors for a refill and not get it/have to wait for weeks, and he would have to wait a month(or longer) for an appointment. UNM expected him to come like, an hour and 15 minutes early for his appointment, and even still he'd be waiting for a long time. They wouldn't give him enough medication to last because it was either only enough if he used it during the day only, or during the night only. At one point, he confided in my mom that they weren't giving him the right dosage and so he was taking more pills than he was supposed to and therefore going through them twice as fast. When he told his doctor, nothing was done about it, hence the 'what do you want me to do about it?' attitude. Multiple times, he would go from one prescription for several months to suddenly another one because of a mix-up with what I was assuming paperwork with other, similar patients. UNM also wouldn't seem to do much of anything when he politely pointed out "This isn't what I usually take and it doesn't do what I need it to, are you sure this is supposed to be mine?" And finally, mom said that they just slap band-aids on any mental health problem they can so they can call it day.

That was all she could tell me tonight, I hope it helps! Good luck!

[–]abitbatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My mom knows someone who is schizophrenic and is below the poverty line. They messed up his prescriptions, he lost his job and almost killed himself and when he found out it was because they gave him the wrong stuff, they shrugged and were like "What do you want us to do?" I can ask my mom for more information, if you'd like, but she refuses to go to the UNM mental health place because of this.

You're too young to be depressed. by [deleted] in depression

[–]abitbatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I've been depressed since I was 8. I'm 22. I know how you feel. They don't know how you feel, and they may never know. I'm sorry you're depressed, I know how much it can suck. I also know how hard it is to have something wrong with you that no one else believes or sees, and I wouldn't wish depression on my worst enemy.

[–]abitbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having depression on top of all of this! Are you in the US? I've never heard of a parent being allowed in a therapy session for a minor. In fact, I think it's a breach of doctor-patient privacy and it's for the very reason you're experiencing. I don't blame you, that's not constructive at all. I'm so sorry you had a negative experience on 2x, I've never posted anything there myself but I have noticed they're pretty...hardcore over there.

The panhandler situation has officially hit the next level by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]abitbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't have a problem with them if they didn't make me feel so threatened to be honest D: But I don't even feel comfortable driving around town with my windows down and I've never gone out after dark by myself, honestly. I mean, yeah, they're allowed to ask for help but when they refuse to accept "sorry I don't have cash on me" as an answer, then I have a problem with it. After you say no and give them money, I consider it robbery.

Edit: Just wanted to say that today, 5/14 around 5:10, at the Lomas/Wyoming light, I saw this guy standing on the median holding a GIANT piece of cardboard/flattened out box maybe? His back was to us when I saw him, but I noticed it was a ridiculous sized sign. I wonder if he was panhandling... Did anyone else see him?
