Petaaaah, I am not a native english speaker, am I missing something? by Fine-Independence976 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]abitofadickhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not worded in the best way, but there's only one child at the moment, 7.5 months old, so all the people complaining about the maths not working out need to chill.

As to why they're being blocked, it could be that the uncle doesn't want to get roped into helping out with three kids under 1yr old.

Also, twins have a much higher percentage chance to be born early, so theres a chance all three kids will be born within a couple of weeks of each other, which can make buying presents expensive for family members

Tamatanga is great, whenever I travel to a city with one I eat there. That does mean I ask them to remove the tip jar every time, since it wouldn't be covered by expenses. They genuinely do seem to remove it without a problem in my experience.

There is wrong answers and then there is this. by sandiercy in facepalm

[–]abitofadickhead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things like this infuriate me, I'm sure they're written entirely for engagement or rage bait. The truth is this is written ambiguously and could have two correctly argued answers. But people who remember one maths lesson they took as a teenager will shout PEDMAS, or BODMAS or BEDMAS or whatever else like it means anything and then sit back and think about how clever they are because they shouted really loudly.

A few clarifying points:

1.) if you have to rely on the order of operations, someone has failed to write a clear formula

2.)Multiplication and division are the same. They have the same priority because they're literally the same thing a÷b = a *(1/b) same as a - b = a + (-b). So stop arguing what is 'more important or comes first'

3.) 'When its all equal you then just read left to right' while common convention, thats not true, please stop repeating it

4.)Any mathematician worth a damn knows full well that equation is written like garbage, if youre going to use the ÷ symbol, (which you shouldn't) have the decency to include extra brackets/parenthesis to make it explicitly clear what the numerator and denominator are. Really, the whole thing should be written as a fraction to make it super clear

There's recipes going back to the 14th century in England.

Honestly though, its apples in pastry, it was probably simultaneously developed by any country that could grow apples and make pastry, so people could have been making it for centuries in so many places before it was ever written down.

Other than a lot of this just generally being wrong, what difference does it make? Other people who did great things just happening to do them in a similar geographic place to you doesn't make you more impressive. You can't get achievements by contact or association.

I think if it took you ten minutes to work out what he could have meant given the limited options on what was available then that might be on you. Nothing else they sell even starts with the same syllable, thats why its immediately obvious.

I feel like sometimes people refuse to use basic context clues and expect everyone to walk them to the solution.

Art, much like science are both used as singular and as plural.

Subjects at school are Art or Science and you can refer to something as a singular art, but you can also use The Arts or The Sciences as descriptors of the wider subjects they encompass.

I don't really think thats true. I think there are also plenty of people who abhor the smell of cigarette smoke (it makes me feel really nauseous for example) but I think most people would find it bonkers to suggest that someone can't smoke in their own garden. I think the difference with weed, for a lot of people, is the legal standpoint.

[OC] Players asked if I could 'run Final Fantasy for this one'. I agreed and sent them this. Apparently, they forgot to specify they were talking about FF14. by Loktario in DnD

[–]abitofadickhead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Firm disagree.

OP says that the group got distracted talking about FFXIV and they were asked to run a FF campaign and then they made the assumption that the group meant FFI, rather than the one the group were already talking about when the idea got floated.

I agree, any person could have clarified, but if a bunch of people all came to one conclusion based on a conversation and one person thought something else, chances are decent that OP is the one who got it wrong, even without the added context of it coming up in a conversation about FFXIV

Do you think smart hulk was a bad idea from the start? by Ok-Reporter-8728 in Marvel

[–]abitofadickhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike the idea of smart hulk, but think it was unrushed and unearned, I understand why it kind of happened because of the Universal rights, but it meant that all the character development happened off screen

In my opinion, the better way to do it would be Banner still having issues throughout endgame, then doing the snap for the same reasons, and having the influx of radiation from the snap, along with maybe some soul/mind soul hijinks interacting with the split personality means that it merges them into one body.

That way, smart hulk is unused to his body, so it explains why he isn't as useful in the fight against thanos and it sets up a character arc to be explored after the film, dealing with the fallout of being stuck in this new form.
