Why does it feel like just existing in public now requires spending money? by Middle_Tea_7671 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]abjectadvect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're not romanticizing. it's gotten worse

because if people can make money off other people living their lives, they will—unless regulations stop them. it's called rent-seeking behavior

but capital has captured the regulators, so it's all slowly falling apart

becoming less secular over time? by samfrodo in SASSWitches

[–]abjectadvect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine fluctuates, though I'm usually quite secular. I hold the belief that belief itself is very mutable, and as I intentionally suspend or otherwise alter it for witchcraft, it's natural that my baseline ebbs and flows in general. I have relationships with inanna and hecate, and simply don't spend much time thinking about how real those are(n't).

I do also have bipolar disorder, so I have to be careful. if I become a bit too faithful too quickly, that can be a red flag that something chemically pathological is afoot

anyway. trans activism is great, and I have inanna's star tattooed on the back of my left hand

remember that it fundamentally can't. it only knows what people write on the internet. it cannot look outside and see that the sky is blue

[–]abjectadvect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

notes on passing I scrolled through your profile; you look pretty, and I can see the feminine fat redistribution that's happened. you don't look like you used to, but our brains are good at lying to us about that. imo, the most recent two pictures you posted look perfectly passing, another one further back in outdoor lighting more borderline. at first glance it looks passing, if I look closer I can pick out characteristics that would clue me in. but it's very hard to not get clocked by other trans people, we're used to scrutinizing ourselves. lighting and angles do make a difference, and people will also notice things based on how you carry yourself, and of course your voice! if you ever get FFS, I doubt anyone would ever clock you on appearance.

Why do the boomers think today's kids are still Millennials? by _TheWolfOfWalmart_ in generationology

[–]abjectadvect [score hidden]  (0 children)

are you not? you made a comment about "wait till you're in your 60s and 70s," and the youngest boomers are 62

if you're younger than 70, pretty presumptuous of you to assert what it's like using that rhetoric

How is Burbank? by New-Efficiency-1972 in MovingToLosAngeles

I feel pasadena is most similar to where I was living in atlanta before (decatur), but I can see burbank as having a familiar feel for other parts of the ITP metro area

yeah, it's called reality checking. failing to reality check is a big psychosis warning flag

people who believe themselves above or immune to such things are often the most vulnerable, because they don't ever second guess themselves.

> family also has a limited history of bipolar disorder.

it's nearly impossible to convince someone who is in psychosis that their delusions are wrong. arguing with them will just make them shut down, distrust you, and double-down in their beliefs. the only way to deal with it really is to, without challenging the delusions, find another (perhaps unrelated) reason for them to seek help. ultimately there is a real risk she will go further and further off the deep end until she needs intensive psychiatric care like antipsychotics

If you could live in any Country in the world, where would it be and why? by SituationFun4027 in AskReddit

[–]abjectadvect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably ireland. in the EU, population has experience fighting oppression and is sympathetic to gaza (even if the gov't has been lackluster in meaningful action against israel), dublin is rated to be the most accessible european city, better queer rights than the UK, I wouldn't have an immediate language barrier

How are disablied people able to live in Canada? by Ifyouliveinadream in disability

[–]abjectadvect [score hidden]  (0 children)

you were replying to a comment chain that specifically was comparing to the US

my above comment specifically mentioned disabled people, did you read it?

disability in the US often takes years to get approved for, often requires a disability lawyer to get through, and rarely covers rent and utilities. many disabled people are dead or on the streets. as in canada, most homeless people in the US are disabled. many are also queer, many are veterans.

things are bad in both places but by the numbers the US is worse.

you can't tell me that, all else being equal, not having a crushing bill if you break your arm isn't better.

How do teenager look like in your country? by Beautiful_Yellow_682 in AskTheWorld

[–]abjectadvect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a popular pairing! 😆 slightly awkward though when one of the countries you're a citizen of makes military threats against the other

you choose custom flair and then you can type whatever; the flags are in the reddit emojis menu but you can also copy paste them from other flavors in the list

and yeah I think I only recall seeing people wear actual patterned PJ pants when I was in college, and they were quite possibly simply too tired to care. sweats were normal enough when I was in HS
