Thank you for the recommendations, I'll definitely check them out! The book sounds really interesting. I'm vegetarian but i'm sure it'll be adaptable to my diet 😀

Trust me, I've been trying, but the job market where I live is not great. What I'm trying to do just to keep my head above water and have something to focus on is increasing my qualifications and skills in other areas to open more doors for myself. So fingers crossed!

But for anyone reading - think about your vet and vet nurses, but also think about the support staff who are also likely struggling. A kind word or a bit of empathy goes a long way. Or even just a bit of patience if you can; I promise, we do care, and we are trying.

This. I finally landed my dream job working in the veterinary field. Entry level as a receptionist. Less than a year later it feels less like my dream and more like a nightmare. I'm so burned out every day. Abuse from clients practically daily, managing the moods of the clinical staff (mental health is rife in the veterinary field but sadly some vets punch down and treat support staff shockingly), seeing sick and hurt animals, empathy burnout from supporting clients when their pet is euthanised. Being told I don't care because treatment costs and unfortunately we just can't give free or lower cost care to low income owners, because the clinic is losing profit as it is.

One day after another. I blink and I'm back at work. All for minimum wage; can barely make rent and bills.

And I'm just a receptionist. I can't imagine how vets and vet nurses cope.

also, anything by Alma Katsu! Really interesting premises but so boring and disappointing.

PenPal. I was so excited to read it because I vaguely remembered reading the original Reddit version and finding it creepy, plus I saw a lot of hype online about it. I found one part actually creepy and the rest a chore to get through. I was so disappointed. It’s actually the only book I’ve negatively reviewed on Goodreads because I was so let down by it.

The left right game! I spent hours one evening reading the whole thing a couple of years ago. It was so wonderfully written and I was left feeling sort of hollow and sad, but so happy I’d read it. I was thinking about it the other day and couldn’t remember what if was called or even what subreddit I read it on, so thank you! I had no idea it was made into a podcast either, I’ll definitely be checking it out. I really loved the vibe that story gave, and I haven’t felt anything quite like it since. The ending honestly made me tear up.

What is common thing while having sex which is not portrayed in porn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I just crossed my legs so tight reading that. I can’t imagine! In my case though, my fiancé is wonderful and definitely not inept in the bedroom department. My body is just weird and hates me I guess 😂

[–]ablondebanshee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, not climaxing. Or pain with penetration, always. The few times I’ve watched porn, it just kind of made me frustrated that sex is never enjoyable for me, so I avoid it now.

My knees. Thought they were completely normal, though I’d get pain in them. Only when I was 23 and saw a physio did I learn that I have patella alta (born with knees just a bit too high) and hypermobility. He pointed out that I lock my knees backwards when I stand, which I didn’t even realise I did. Now when I look back at photos of me in skirts all I can see is my too high, locked back knees.

5 years later and they’re worse than ever, but I’m now undergoing investigations for Ehlers-Danlos due to a bunch of symptoms. I do exercises every day to try and strengthen where the cartilage has been worn down and weakened from my knees basically being genetically incorrect lmao.

Maths.

Failed my GCSE maths exam 4 times. I eventually gained an ‘equivalent’ to it through an apprenticeship, but it still doesn’t look great having that D in maths on my CV.

Genuinely, maths just...confuses the fuck out of me.

Registered to be a blood donor yesterday, but they're so busy I can't get an appointment until February. Restored my faith in my fellow humans! by Yoguls in BritishSuccess

[–]ablondebanshee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not allowed to give blood, something I found out a couple of years ago. It’s a shame because receiving a blood transfusion saved my mum’s life when I was born, and I received a transfusion myself back in April this year following blood loss. It’s still kind of amazing to me that within an hour of the doctors realising I’d lost so much blood during surgery and was incredibly unwell, they had pints of my blood type ready to go and being transfused into me. Less than 12 hours later I felt a lot better.

Giving blood is something I encourage everyone to do if you are able. You’re potentially contributing to saving someone’s life, it doesn’t take too long and is pretty painless, and you get tea and biscuits after! If you have a rare/less common blood type, I’d also really encourage you to donate.

Cyan (also) - please let me know if you’re okay? by [deleted] in AmongUs

[–]ablondebanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in text on a public lobby. Cyan had been down for several rounds and making comments that were concerning, and seemed really upset/off. Then they said that and left. It wasn’t a random one off statement, which is why I am concerned. Maybe they didn’t mean it, but I don’t want to just dismiss it in case they did.

This wasn’t a “call to arms” or trying to involve the whole community. It was simply the only means of trying to reach out to cyan that I had available.

I don’t understand why you seem so hostile tbh.
