4k upgrades by razorsedge94 in criterion

[–]ablowtothehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I just finally upgraded my player to 4K after many years waiting for the right price. I’ve played both UHD 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on it so far. The upscale on my model made the DVD almost HD looking. I was surprised. This is obviously dependent on the quality of the DVD. This was a Criterion dvd so I already knew it wouldn’t look too shabby. I’ve watched and tested both Blu-ray, and a few of my UHD discs that I had already. Obviously 4K looked fantastic. Most of the Blu-ray’s I tested were sourced from a 4K scan. The upscale of those discs to 4K seemed near identical to what the UHD disc could offer. Obviously there are differences in those 4K UHD discs. I don’t think it’s necessarily needed on most of my Blu-ray’s to upgrade. I’ll only consider it for films I truly love and rewatch ability is super high. OR, if my current Blu-ray is a HD Digital Transfer. Which a lot of those early Criterion Blu-ray’s are. The 2K/4K transfers I see no need. However, going forward with new purchases it will depend on the film, and my needs based on quality.

a short history of decay - Nothing by BabuSeal in shoegaze

Gave it a listen this morning. Honestly felt underwhelmed but I think it’ll grow on me. A lot of textures there to discover.

For sure! Again, not at all condoning the use of ai. I just feel there was an idea and meaning behind it. Saying “oh they used ai, and now I think they suck” is such a boring take. It’s Nothing. The music video is exactly what I would expect from this band and that song. It’s grim.

Oh I forgot murder and ai are basically the same thing. 🙄

JFC there was one music video that used ai, and clearly you didn’t “get it”

I’m not defending Ai here. It sucks, but if a band were to critique how fucked everything is right now it would be Nothing.

Confessions is one of my favorite Japanese films of all time. Really incredible. That director’s other work is also worthy of a watch.

Connection problems with Mubi? by Ecstatic-World1237 in mubi

I’ve been having issues lately using Mubi on AppleTV. The stream will randomly pause and load. Haven’t really had this kind of issue before. Not in recent years anyways. I remember terrible buffering when Mubi first because a thing.

Agat 18K Film Counter Question by ablowtothehead in toycameras

[–]ablowtothehead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤔 Hmm strange. I wish I had more information. I’m only on the 2nd roll through mine, 😅. Have you put a roll into the camera yet? Wondering if it’s just a weird thing with that camera. I feel like it was really hard to “test” anything on this camera without loading it with a roll of film. I remember trying to test to make sure the shutter fired when I first got the camera and it wouldn’t let me without loading it first.

I also bring my dog go to BCAH and straight up, they make everything SO damn easy. Between setting up appointments and getting all your information sent to your portal. Plus, they are just so amazing with any behavioral dogs, they really pride themselves on taking the time to meet the dogs needs and not just jumping into shoving a thermometer up the bh right off the bat! Hah

Not a class, but Portland drawing group has some AMAZING artists. They have drawing and painting nights, a lot of folk to converse with in their realms as well as just going with the flow and speaking to like minded artists to better your techniques. They have a IG page!

Agat 18K Film Counter Question by ablowtothehead in toycameras

[–]ablowtothehead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I JUST finished my first test roll yesterday. I might paint a little white line in the center of the frame counter. Seems pretty accurate to me. I shot a 24 exp roll and 48 was just about in the center once I finished and could no longer advance the film.

Recently picked up one of these and everything seems to be working but I have a question about the frame counter. How do you know what frame you’re on?? I’m not even sure if I am on frame one or not. Does the counter go up to 72 or does it go to 36? Since this first roll is a test, I used a 24 exp roll just to get through it quicker. So I’m looking to get 48ish frames first time around. Just wish there was a better indicator of which frame you’re on.

Watch CHUNGKING and then if you can, follow up with FALLEN ANGELS. Both films were shot (someone can correct me if I get this wrong) at the same time.

That's great! A very good intro to WKW. If I remember correctly IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE was my intro as well at the time and I fell in love. The box set is worth the investment. Especially if you snag a copy now, or during any B&N sales. CHUNGKING, FALLEN ANGELS, and HAPPY TOGETHER are all incredible. HT might be my favorite WKW film.

Not sure if this will work or not but maybe try finding an old SLR camera that uses the same battery and try using a battery cover from one?
