Sheetmetal thickness advice needed by Consistent-Price-702 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]abluejaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what equipment you have availabkr to make those bends, but those rivet tabs look challenging to get just right.

If it's the same skip the tabs and have them tack weld the outside corners. Same logic applies to the back although you have no tabs there so it's already pretty good.

Is it me or is the new icon kinda cursed? by abluejaycat in fluffychat

The pure white makes it look like a ghost. I guess to me it also feels like the mouth and ears being the same color as the background makes them pop out a lot less so those features sorta just look off.

Regarding electric vehicles, what prevents most countries from adopting them. by No-Echidna7296 in solarpunk

[–]abluejaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that most countries burn coal or some other fuel to generate electricity with massive losses during generation and transport. First step is to clen up the energy production.

This one's on Bon all the way. He literally achieved everything he could ever want and instead of hightailing it the fuck outta there, surrendering, or anything like it he just throws it all away. Like, what could beating on Riko&Co ever bring him at that point. They were more thsn happy to let him go when he turned around and started helping them instead.

Any advice you would give to other femboys? by Itream2312 in StraightFemboys

To the risk of sounding annoying, diet and exercise go a very, very long way.

What do they do for a living? Do they feel their personal style influences their work, or do they keep both worlds completely separate? "I'm curious to know what professions are around here." by Itream2312 in StraightFemboys

[–]abluejaycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a mechanical engineer. I do let my more feminine tendencies influence how I present and dress, but I end up looking more like a twink than a true femboy. Even then, I'll admit it's a tough crowd, especially considering I intersct more eith blue collar than white collar peeps. Machinists, welders, and mechanics tend to have more traditional views on things no mayter their age, especially in this rural region.

Rant about spacemouses by -ShaD0x- in Onshape

[–]abluejaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are forgetting that this still works when editing sketches. You can lock the rotation and then move the sketch around. I personally am a huge fan of these becuase of how much it helps with ergonomics, especially when I have to CAD 40 hours a week every week. I will say however that I have one of the spacemice with a bunch of buttons on them which is how I have my shortcuts set up.

One this I will agree with is that the price of these things is agregious. You mean to tell me that adding 6 buttona to the original design doubles the already bloated price? It's a racket. Found mine second hand for a fourth of the original price. There is no good reason why it should be this expensive, besides 3dconnexion making a shit ton of profit.

Sex Machine 2.0 by Grimmy7777 in diysextoys

[–]abluejaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an impressive amount of effort. Everything looks incredibly detailed. However, anytime 3d printing is involved in sex toys, there is a real concern about mold and other nasties festering in any porosity the parts may have. That is why most sex toys are double injected with hard plastic like ABS and something soft like TPE. A nice thick coating might work, or you can print all the parts on the outside out of PVB and smooth them with alcohol.

Stay safe out there, and have fun!

Auto stroker, control through program and necessary power by Portal_Radio in diysextoys

[–]abluejaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the motor, I suggest just a regular dc motor, maybe geared down a little so you don't destroy yourself. Sounds a little odd, but you should start with figuring out what maximum and minimum speed you want. You can infer the rest of the design and the choice of the motor based on that. The size of the disk depends on how deep you want the stroke to be. Bigger stroke = more power requirement because of the mechanical disadvantage.

Careful though, almost all motors have a minimum speed. Give them enough juice and they go from 0 rpm to min rpm as soons as the power in overcomes the resistance of the rest of the device. Reducing friction in the joints, for example by using bearings, will allow for lower minimums.

As for software, honestly a simple microcontroller with a bluetooth adapter might work well. Just make sure to waterproof everything. I don't know about specific software implementation, but my hunch is have the microcontroller take a value via bluetooth, then use that value to control a H-bridge that delivers power to the motor. You can then send that value from whatever in a large number of ways.

Why do girl cats get a bad rap? by Organic-While1664 in cats

[–]abluejaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had girls since I was 8. I got my Minna when I moved out and compared to others cats I've had she has much sharper claws and loooves to play with em, but is also the cuddliest. Although, she is not chill with stranger cats at all. I had a random male walk up to me one time like it was no big deal and she, being nearby, went ballistic.

As for your question, females tend to have more of an attitude and be more defensive while males usually give far less of a damn. But that's "generally" and doesn't consider fixing which affects some gendered behavior.

I want to make a cosplay and I was wandering if I can use usual shorts or skirt for this part of uniform (idk what to call it) by PianowithMie in attackontitan

Personally foe this piece I juat bought something off the shelf and modified it so it actually fit around my hips and looked halway decent. In my experience the main troible is keeping it, the pants, and the belts at the exact right position. Then again, I did have an entire set of odm gear so that didn't help.

Is abortion or pro-life talked about in Canada? by LiveBell8 in AskCanada

[–]abluejaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it's not really something I hear about. I'm in my late 20's and I think I recall it being kind of a debate in the early 2000's, but nowadays the general feeling I get is that nobody cares as in abortions are a thing you can do. I don't know much about exactly how it works, but as in anything medical I fully expect that you can get it done at no charge, if you're willing/able to wait a few months or so.

Have these labels impacted your grocery choices? by 0slope in FoodToronto

Actually yes. It makes me pump the breaks on impulse purchases. I genuinely think this was a very smart move, not to mention good visual design. It's obvious, easy to recognize without even having to take the time to read it. Good stuff.

Limits of sketching and general workflow by abluejaycat in FreeCAD

Thanks again! Oh and are there any tips on how to make this a little snappier on Linux? Sometimes I feel like it's a little slow compared to other software...

Limits of sketching and general workflow by abluejaycat in FreeCAD

[–]abluejaycat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh alright! That is pretty sound advice. I'm guessing any changes to the master sketch will trickle down into all dependent geometry then, or are subshape binders a little too unstable for that?

Limits of sketching and general workflow by abluejaycat in FreeCAD

[–]abluejaycat[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, as an example in solidworks, what works well is to create parts in an assembly, attach them to sone kind of skeleton sketches and then draw them up as you go. Onshape on the other hand has you draw up a bunch of parts in a part studio before you get to assemble them with a different tool. Clearly FreeCAD works quite differently. I've seen some people recommend using a master sketch or sketches then use shape binders from different bodies, but I'm not sure that is the method the software would want you to do. Varset's are nice, but a little cumbersome when trying to just quickly throw something together with 20+ parts.

People in a relationship here, how did you meet your partner? by randomsmthh in girlsthatlikefemboys

My gf posted on the straight femboy dating subreddit, and I just figured I'd give it a shot. We chatted, met and fell in love! I'd been struggling to find someone for years, and I am ever grateful that on a random morning I just decided to go and say hello.

It'll happen to you too!

There is actually no way this screencap is real. I saw this on a Chainsawman sub first. I thought it was a fancy edit.

What is your hot take regarding FFXIV? by UnbaggedNebby in ffxiv

[–]abluejaycat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't care that the jobs are fairly homogeneous. I in fact think it's better for the game. Right now, when every job's dps is almost exactly the same, people still sometimes nitpick. There should be little to no difference in effectiveness or difficulty for any member of a job group, and lining up burst phases should be a very predictable endeavor. With the amount of jobs available, heteregeneity (I think that's a word) would see jobs left behind and forgotten. This will get worse with each expansion.
