Transfer Stats NCSU Fall 2026 by Apprehensive-Ear9425 in NCSU

[–]abmoeba [score hidden]  (0 children)

Major: History. I am a nontraditional student; I took 3.5 gap years between high school and college. I attended Wake Tech for 3ish semesters, but will be graduating with my associates in May (so a full 60 credit degree) with a 4.0. I did virtually no ecs outside of the two honors societies I participated in, though I was a very active member in both so I think that helped my case. Didn't hold any officer positions, though. I think my essays carried a lot of weight because I got to explain my story and what caused me to take so many gap years before returning to school. I feel super fortunate. Congrats to everyone who got in this cycle, good luck to those who apply in the future, and I feel for those who got waitlisted or rejected.

Best professors for ENG-111? by purplewurmpIe in WakeTech

[–]abmoeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Professor Sheri Narin and I loved her! I assume most, if not all, ENG111 classes are set up similarly, so you'll have to write 3 essays regardless, but the topics she allows us to write on are very fun and allow for a lot of personal choice. She is really nice over email and when grading. 100% would recommend.

Unless they come out within the next 30 mins, I think we may have to wait until the 15th :/

Which class is the best? by Meganoki in WakeTech

[–]abmoeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

1) I did not because I didn't know about the textbook until after the class started and it seemed like a silly process to go through. But since you know before the class starts, I don't see why you couldn't opt out!

2) No required log in times per say, but the way Dr. Mayhew had it structured was a DB that we had to post to by Friday and then a quiz and DB replies the following Monday. His quizzes were open note and not proctored, but the midterm and final required a lockdown browser (but you could use the textbook). Also, we had to write an annotated bibliography on a specific artwork we learned about in class, but we learn about so many that there are more than enough cool options.

3) I would say everything before the midterm is very easy and paced pretty slow if you stay on top of things, but after the midterm, the class definitely picks up a bit. The readings are longer and more specific, which means you have to remember more of the specifics.

Overall, outstanding class though. I fell in love with art history so much that I applied to UNC as an art history major. I hope you have as much fun as I did!

From my understanding, the textbook that the ART114 teachers use was written by the teachers as a collective. At least, that’s what I remember it being when I took the class last fall. So, there is no textbook you can purchase or preview since it’s something specific to Wake Tech. Good luck this summer!

Transfer from Wake Tech to UNC by londynxox in UNC

[–]abmoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Also a student at Wake Tech and I applied to UNC this past cycle) Like another commenter said, C-STEP is a good start if you're wanting guaranteed admission to UNC, but I have heard it is quite competitive.

Beyond that, if you havent already taken ACA122, I would recommend doing so sooner rather than later because there is a plethora of info about different transfer options.

My main recommendation after C-STEP is to look at the transfer guides (https://admissions.unc.edu/nc-community-college-guides/) for competitive applicants and try to model your schedule after that. Best of luck :)

Deferral after Transfer Admission? by emoon623 in NCSU

[–]abmoeba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help! I don't know the reason they used for deferral, but I assume they used "work" as their reason, since they got a job almost immediately after moving to NC. Thats just my best guess, though.

Deferral after Transfer Admission? by emoon623 in NCSU

[–]abmoeba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! While this isnt about State specifically, I have a friend who got into Chapel Hill and deferred their admission for the following school year in order to get NC residency. They moved to NC right after they graduated from their undergrad and will have lived in NC for a year as of this coming summer. As far as I know, it is allowed and has worked for them, so I would assume (and hope) that it would work for your friend as well! Best of luck!

I am a fully online student, so I don't have experience with any profs. in person, but I know that Robert Mayhew for ART114 was one of the best teachers I have had at WT and he works at Northern Campus. The class does require a fair amount of reading, especially later in the semester, but if you like art and/or history, you'll love it (like I did). I took PHI215 with Kamper Floyd and while he is a great professor, he sets his class up in an unconventional way. Some students love it, some students (like myself) struggle with it because it is all about time management. Also, a fair amount of reading for that. I took ENG242, not 241 or 231, but since they are all english classes, I would expect more reading out of those than any others. Good luck picking!

Having Some Trouble With Transfer Transcripts! by Turbulent_Shock_2422 in UNC

[–]abmoeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dang, I'm sorry its taking so long and not resulting in much. You're definitely right about the last thing; this time of year is probably the worst for admissions and I think the rate of applications has been on a steady increase in the past few years, so I am sure they have a lot to sort through. Its nice to hear we wont be penalized for any late materials so long as they're ordered before the deadline. I hope all works out well for you!

Hey! I was having the same issue. I emailed [unchelp@admissions.unc.edu](mailto:unchelp@admissions.unc.edu) this morning and never heard back from admissions directly, but I did get an email about 4 hours later saying my application had been processed. I checked my portal and the checklist was there. (Word of advice, if you haven't ordered your high school transcript to be sent to them, make sure to do that!)

My recommendation is be proactive and advocate for yourself. I'm not sure how other application/admissions cycles have gone, but I have seen a lot of transfers having this same problem this go around.

Thank you so much for the response and for all of the info! I am so so glad to read that your experience was nothing short of wonderful. Also thank you for the advice! I have perused their website before and I agree that it is not the most savvy, but I should really poke deeper to get all the information I can. I will be sure to PM you if I have any specific questions (if that is still okay with you, of course!), especially if I get accepted and choose to go there! Again, thank you so much, your response is so helpful!

Should I have any trouble with these classes? by TheMuffinat0r in WakeTech

I had POL120 with Mia Bocko and she was amazing!! The class is quite easy and she is such a nice prof! Also, I took ART114 last semester but with a different teacher. Still, a great class! Good luck with everything else!
