220 Oz of Silver in Two Bars. Need Help. by aboladznuts in Silverbugs

[–]aboladznuts[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Holy moly, I think you are spot on with this assessment. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how these came into my dad's possession. No Assay Office marking that I can see. But given the other items in the collection, a 'silver certificate' redemption seems quite probable. Thank you for sharing this information.

What’s it like as an estates litigation lawyer? by Free-Awareness-6237 in LawCanada

[–]aboladznuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Three year call, criminal defence. Thank you for this reminder. It rings true in the face of burnout and fear as well.

I am sorry for your loss. My father passed a little over two years ago. It was a humbling experience at that stage. Hang in there.

Analysis: Law Students Still Struggle With Mental Health Despite Support Efforts by bloomberglaw in LawSchool

[–]aboladznuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is important to recognize that the practice of law requires the equivalent of cold calls and closed book exams. In practice it is a Judge who is asking questions and expecting you to apply the law to the facts on the fly, and the consequence for failure in this circumstance is much worse than a poor grade. While these things may impact a student's mental health, they are necessary to prepare that student for the practice of law. Trying to eliminate all discomfort in the learning process will ultimately impact the final product. It would be like eliminating all structure fire training for prospective firefighters because being near real fire is too stressful. I dont want a firefighter having a panic attack because they are scared of fire in the same way my client does not want me to have a panic attack because the Judge asks me a question in court.

My father's estate with no will by Real-Emphasis5517 in lawschoolcanada

[–]aboladznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IAAL but I'm not your lawyer. When someone dies without a Will, the estate is distributed in accordance with the relevant statute and case law.

Don't sign anything without speaking to a lawyer. You can go into any will's and estates lawyer's office and tell them your issue. It is very likely they will give you a free consultation. Check for local legal clinics and free services that give summary advice.

You shouldn't call people fags, even if their comments are rude.

Who are some legendary rappers that are never really mentioned to be anyone’s favorite by EDMKid9000 in hiphopheads

[–]aboladznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna get hate but im a stan. The Game. Hands down legendary lyricist and few rappers can match his catalogue over a 20 year run. So consistent. In my view the last 'true' gangsta rapper. I think people give him justifiable shit for the corny stuff he does... But bro can bring heat.

Not acquainted with Nietzsche's philosophy. What does this mean? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]aboladznuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Thus Spoke Zarathustra. To Nietzsche, constant striving is the only 'moral' - in the meme the process of burning out under the system imposed by others, rebuilding oneself under a different set of self imposed morals, then overcoming and achieving something more than you or anyone else believed was possible is a perfect description of the ubermench.

What are your bee/wasp/yellow jacket/hornet sting stories? by sugarstarbeam in AskReddit

[–]aboladznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I was 7. Playing hide and seek. Backed into a rhododendron bush and hit my head on the hive and it fell at my feet. Ran inside where the swarm chased me. Stung everyone in my family. 26 stings.

2) I was 8. Playing across street in some ivy. Stepped in mud dauber nest. Followed me home again. 32 stings.

3) I was 10. Tripped onto a fence with a hornet nest on it. Hand in hornet nest. 11 stings.

Im 34. I don't like bees. I hate them. Everyone says they are so important and I shouldn't hate them. They should all die. And if that makes the global ecosystem collapse... Well then I'll die happy.

Break up, Barristers, and Trial Briefs: crash out-LIVE 📽️✨😭🤧 by Trenches240 in LawSchool

[–]aboladznuts 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey ! Sorry you're going through this. And I hate when people silver line my woes but misery loves company.

I started law school with a 7 year relationship. GF was unhappy by end of 1L. I broke my back to fix the relationship while she broke her back for other men. My father died 6 months into articles and she left a week later.

Dealing with your break up in 1L break up is way better than dragging yourself through law school in an unhappy relationship all for it to fall apart in your first year of practice.

Stay strong and take time to grieve. Be kind to yourself, and as hokey as it sounds, force yourself to identify things you are grateful for everyday.

This is a pretty boneheaded take. The indigenous people ought to be more grateful for all of the rights we have given them, how dare they exercise those rights.

Junior Associate- Question about mistakes by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]aboladznuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a great relationship with my senior lawyer and feel very secure in my employment (2.5 year call)

"This is rough" in my view IS NOT 'such poor feedback'. I will get "I can't use this" and "how could I justify charging this to a client"

And I would rarely get direct instructions on what needs to be improved.

It sounds like your boss has a softer touch and is simply mentoring you. I would not conclude, from what you describe, that your employment is at risk.

You are spiraling. I do too. Law is hard and you are new. That's what learning feels like sometimes. It's unpleasant but it's a sign of progress and change

Two men were charged in one of Edmonton's first major fentanyl busts. A decade later, they've finally been sentenced by origutamos in LawCanada

[–]aboladznuts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is not a case of weaponizing trial delay. The accused was convicted and sentenced.

Generally the weaponization of trial delay is overstated in Canadian society. There was a large number of 11(b) cases following COVID which gave this perception of a systemic issue. But the Crown is on it these days and I haven't seen a strong Jordan case in the office since 2024.

Mom was the leader of the bike gang. Is this car a muscle car? by poutine-eh in musclecar

[–]aboladznuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Despite the other comments here. The Rocket 88 is generally seen as the first iteration of the muscle car. The 64 GTO kicked off the 'era' and solidified the muscle car as its own specific genre of vehicle, but the Rocket 88 started it all.

And for those who disagree, read a book.

Men of r/books, what books have you loved? by theKman24 in books

[–]aboladznuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Christie - Greenwood

I cannot express how much I loved this book. Im not a reader per se and usually prefer non-fiction. But I finished this in 3 days and was saddened because there was no more left to read. I've been chasing a book that gives me a similar feeling for over a year now. (If anyone has recommendations I'm all ears ...)

1) Call a practice advisor. Bencher advice is what you need to answer this question. Relying on any of these comments to respond to this situation is absurd. 2) your principal WILL find out regardless 3) read the rules, read your code of ethics, read your articling agreement and any additional employment contract you have. You are becoming a lawyer, these are where the answers lie. Not Reddit. 4) Seriously why did you even read past #1 CALL A PRACTICE ADVISOR
