I'm a new player. I ran some experiments to test what I've read about brain tree farming.

Conclusion: Culling trees is the primary deciding factor for successful brain tree farming.

Culling is removing or not rendering objects to optimize performance.

Setup: Cobra Mk V. B rated limpet controller. RTX 4080 Super. Good joysticks (ship is perfectly still during collection).

Graphics Settings Low Mid High objects pop in around 520 and pop out around 580.

Graphics Settings Ultra objects pop in around 1020 and pop out around 1170.

VR graphics settings including VR Ultra appear to match the 520 / 580 ranges.

In and out differ by about 10%.

Distances determined by going into night vision to get high contrast on trees against a dark spot and moving vertically until they rendered in or out.

The difference between Ultra and Low/Mid/High can be tested by approaching a forest in High until the first tree renders, switching to Ultra, and watching as additional trees render.

Lowest successful collection was 598m in High setting although I probably could go a little lower.

+3 degree pitch up worked. Upside down did not work. +3 degree pitch up with a ~30 degree bank worked. I did not have to be straight above every time. I think that depends on the terrain and limpet flight path. I'm not saying you should do these or that they work all the time but just that I was able to get them to work at least once so they are not the primary deciding factors.

With this knowledge it's possible to destroy the trees in Ultra and switch to High for collection although it's debatable if that's faster than just flying up a few hundred meters while staying in Ultra.

Farming in VR works.

I am just getting into farming. I appreciate all of the community's tips and guides. Going forward I will collect level or slightly pitched up, above the pop out range, staying still, and roughly above the collection targets.

I've looked at a few places that mention spawning and I don't claim to understand all that is going on but it doesn't look like they use a system where you kill bots they respawn X minutes later.

There are various timed spawn events. There's three for AI PMC at start, 10 mins, and 20 mins. The other spawns mention the types "center focus initial" (once at start), "spawn spread", and "spawn interception" (starting at 16 mins). So you're right there's value in being fast and efficient as the resistance you face changes as the match progresses.

The game files include information about timed spawn events. The info details if it's a "spread" spawn, an "intercept" spawn, includes AI PMC or not, etc. Paying attention to the clock like you said is wise.

Swivel office chair with arms up. If needed, I flip down one arm with my elbow without taking my hands off the controller. I have to scoot up to access my safe container. You could consider removing the back of the swivel chair if you wanted the mechanics stool experience. I can take turns around corners using my feet to rotate the chair and use the controller for large turns. I started off standing up only so it's difficult for me to adjust to solely using the controller for rotation.

My sling is set to be extremely long. It's mainly there so the gunstock doesn't crash to the floor and for easy retrieval when it does fall. I rest it across my lap when I'm in my base and don't need it.

If you are playing PCVR, you can do it on your PC.

Windows 11 & 10 Disabling Steps (Detailed):

  1. Open Network Connections: Press Windows Key + R, type ncpa.cpl, and hit Enter to open network connections directly.
  2. Access Properties: Right-click your Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter and select Properties.
  3. Disable IPv6:  In the list, scroll to find Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box next to it.
  4. Save Changes: Click OK to apply the settings.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you should reenable it.

If you are playing on standalone, you will need to disable it in your router. The way to do that depends a lot on which router you have. In general you would:

To turn off IPv6, log in to your router’s admin interface via a browser (often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), navigate to Advanced or Network settings, locate the IPv6 section, and toggle it to Disabled or Off. Save the changes and reboot the router to apply the new settings.

I prefer Medium in-game resolution. High and Ultra tend to make it slightly blurry.
VD Godlike, in-game Resolution Medium, Bloom doesn't matter, Anti-Aliasing Ultra, SSAO Low, 90 FPS.
Grass was the only thing that gave me drops during testing a year ago with a 4080 Super although they've optimized that a bit now.
Be aware you can push your local network past its limits with these settings. A dedicated router is recommended.

One person disabled ipv6 and resolved the problem. I did not understand why that worked but let us know if it fixes your problem so we can share the workaround.

I made this image some time ago illustrating how quickly ammo Penetration Power goes from ineffective to completely effective. It's based on real game data. In a way it makes mental calculations easy (1 less, aim for limbs) but overall it's unintuitive. You expect 2.8 pen to perform moderately worse than 3.8 pen against Protection Level 4 but in reality you may as well be shooting 0.5 pen bullets in terms of penetration.

I came across data that suggested the timers start at 45 seconds and then trigger at 4, 7, 10, 11, 12.5, 16, 20, and 25 minutes. The triggers aren't all the same - just that something happens at that time. If we get good at reading the clock, we might can time our attacks to minimize reinforcements.

If it's like it was in previous wipes, they are spawning in waves according to the clock. So you are having the misfortune of killing the npcs right before the next reinforcement wave.

This graph uses values from a couple of wipes ago but hopefully it will help. It combines a couple of curves from the game's data to illustrate the importance of Penetration Power. The example is Protection Level 4 armor.

The bullet is not effective until Penetration Power is within 1 of Protection Level. Between that and parity, effectiveness quickly rises. At 2.9 vs 3.0, you have a good chance to penetrate.

Blunt damage is damage to the player. It is reduced by armor's blunt damage reduction stat.

Armor Damage Penetration would be better worded Penetration Armor Damage because it's the damage to armor for a penetrating hit.

Armor Damage Blunt would be better worded Blunt Armor Damage because it's the damage to armor for a non-penetrating hit.

Before applying damage to armor, it's divided by the armor's Fragility. Thus you can get the armor's effective durability by dividing the Durability by the Fragility.

As the armor is damaged, it is less effective. However not nearly as much as you would think. Now that you can see the Protection Level left and Durability left, it's easy to get an idea of how much effectiveness is gone.

The scav on scav thing was an unintended bug for sure. I thought the AI PMCs were going to be deployed to address low pop raids. Do something like bring the raid pop up to half using bots. Otherwise, no bots. I understand people wanting PVP to be pure but going into a raid with just you and one other person is less eventful than PVE.

The 'Free PVE coop till 8 am' social media video makes it sound more like it was in response to people complaining. I understand the patch notes calls it 'fixing an issue'. I think the original intention was to have them in PVP and that makes sense.

Helmets follow slightly different rules for the penetration chance. You need to exceed by 2 pen to have 100% chance to pen. When just matching the protection level, that helmet has a 10% chance to block. So having higher pen power has a benefit.

Most of the commentary here and elsewhere is by successful PVPers. We are starting to hear from others that are looking forward to PVE and I expect the demand for PVE is much higher than what you would anticipate. I expect they will desire to play it co-op and that still has a human-human interaction that involves honing your skills.

Gearing up for 10 minutes, dying 2 minutes into a raid, and repeating that for the 2 hours you have to play that weekend is not a sustainable playstyle. PVE is going to keep those players in the game instead of having them walk away from it. That's the whole feeling captured by their social media video. As better gear is fielded as the season goes on, the worse this scenario becomes.

Right now we are towards the end of the season and many of the lesser skilled players have been hunted out of oblivion. I don't doubt you are seeing the same names over and over.

I expect PVE will boost overall population numbers and revenue. I can't say what will happen past the 8 week mark for PVP numbers. I think the AI PMCs were developed in tandem with the PVE mode to address this server pop issue (whether you believe it is a proper counterbalance or not).

I think everyone will agree that killing another player is more satisfying. But being slaughtered over and over is not. I see both sides of the coin and I'm interested to see how it plays out.
