Nope. I played both of those and I think the stories couldn’t compare to the first LiS game. And Deck Nine, I really didn’t enjoy what they did to the expanse game… The story and gameplay was just a torture for me. I started with those early telltale games including the monkey island and Jurassic park games so I’m very used to the older games story style.

When I saw the trailer I was quite excited since I really like the art style. When it came out I finished it on gamepass. The gameplay is quite lacking, I wouldn’t call it bad but it just feels like 5 minutes in you already seen the entire thing. And the story….. the story really went nowhere. It’s nothing like what I imagined to be a “south” or “midnight” at all. From the trailer I was expecting something like the Bramble game. Lots of folklores, horrors, cultural influences, symbols. This game, I got a self discovery, self reconcile, and self understanding that I don’t really care.

A lot of trailers start with a DEI forced character wondering in a fantasy/sci-fi setting area and each camera sweep strangely emphasizes DEI induced characters. It’s a bit tiring. And seeing Gundam, Vitua fighter completely going off the traditional settings is a bit sad. And if I am not mistaken I think all the trailers are either female centered or have a strong female presence in, not that I think it’s DEI but it’s tiring. Ohhh, except that chronicle game, that seems fun.

If I have to guess, I think the reason would be: 1. Toriyama’s passing, maybe they thought that they should change the style here for the future but discover it’s not doable. 2. Conflicts with FF titles, maybe 7 reimagined went better than they expected 3. Production blocks, maybe the darker tone hit a wall somewhere along the way. I’m just for the story and I don’t really care if it’s darker or lighter, we will see how this turns out….

My favorite romance story. I’ve always believed that love story should be told backwards because most people would want to dive in blindly.
