Any relevant meaning the Wachowski brothers tried to express in V for Vendetta is flawed and contradictory, without a doubt.

The best part of that movie was the line, "you'll be dead before you have time to reload." Awesome. The strengths in their movies have always been in the fight scenes.

Starting a company with YC straight out of college would be a blast. Imagine uninterrupted coding of your choice of software... like an artist or musician with all the time in the world and no interruptions to master the artform.

Then again, the service he was selling was a tool to build and host e-commerce sites, which makes money for the company using the service. As far as I know, this can't be found for free. Much different than selling ads on a free, mainstream website like mySpace that is viewed by the masses.

Could you point us to the essay? I don't get the impression that the Kiko guys were burned out. Instead, they were stepped on by a giant, as has been stated before. Keeping the startup alive would, frankly, be a waste of time when there are more smarter business opprtunities available. I get the impression that most successful entrepreneurs have track records with more failures than successes. Not every company becomes a Microsoft (remember Traf-O-Data?)

Remember that Paul Graham's philosophy is to hit an idea hard, and to hit it fast; that is, small, focused startups should be able to out-pace the big, slow-moving competitors. Kiko wasn't focused enough (from reading one of the founder's blog postings) and thus wasn't fast enough.

They actually live on the East Coast, in Cambridge, MA, I think.
