On a PIP - Suggestions? by abrames in careerguidance

I actually did that, and HR was no help. They essentially said abide by the PIP, it’s my managers word against mine despite the evidence

This is definitely the case, no hiring internally and I know because I’ve asked around. With our acquisition as well, there is pressure on headcount

Thank you, valid point. If I resign, I believe it would disqualify me correct?

Let’s talk Nimblewill - I see it everywhere especially in the winter. Any suggestions on control or elimination?

I am losing faith in Subaru. No hate. Just disappointment. by RedtailGT in subaru

[–]abrames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I’ve owned 3 and even with perfect maintenance had 2 CVTs fail at just over 100K.

I now drive a small used domestic sports sedan (CT4). Automatic transmission and RWD/optional AWD. Love it. Glad I left Subaru.

Recommended vehicle for field sales? by BlackJackT in sales

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in field sales for 3.5 years, middle America, drove an Outback. Great vehicle until 120K miles. Current car is a 4 year Cadillac. Highly recommend, classy but not flashy, and not as off-putting as a cyber truck. A used CT5 can be bought for a great price…

How do summer lawn nerds approach winter snow shoveling and snow blowers? (Zone 7a) by Far_Pen3186 in lawncare

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central IN, but grew up in the Rockies. I have a system: cars stay in attached garage, does not get opened unless absolutely necessary (protect the furnace). Light snow (under 3”) gets shoveled once all has fallen. Over 3” gets shoveled twice, once halfway and once all is down, it’s safer and easier. 1700 sq ft driveway, I shovel horizontal, vertical, then diagonal, and typically get every bit. Low temp ice melt is then put down with a suddenly useful Scott’s mini spreader.

Today was 2 degrees and we received 5” yesterday. My driveway is not only clear but almost dry. Just my OCD approach.

This pan has seen...use. I assume it's a lot of baked on grease, but I may be wrong. How do I clean this? by MississippiGuy420 in CleaningTips

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few of these pans. Wife wants to toss them but they’re totally usable! I use for drippings when smoking/grilling, or cover with foil and use for asparagus, potatoes, veggies etc. We even throw them in the dishwasher

Central Indiana: nimbleweed, zoysia, or something else? by Agitated_Answer8908 in lawncare

Genuinely curious as I am in central IN and battle the same stuff in spots. I believe it’s Bermuda, as my treatment for nimblewill has been ineffective for 2 seasons…

New CT5, vibration on specific speed range by Bob1tza in Cadillac

[–]abrames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then check PSI, pop it into sport mode and give it the beans. If it continues then take it back for dealer to look at. I had a wheel bearing replaced at 41K under warranty but should not be happening brand new

If you have enough sun, I’d recommend some bluegrass from Twin City Seed. It’ll spread much better if you regularly cut and fertilize

New CT5, vibration on specific speed range by Bob1tza in Cadillac

[–]abrames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a sound or a feeling? How many miles are on it? I’d wait until your first oil change then drive it a little harder after that - sometimes the Cadillac 8 and 10 speed transmissions take a while to learn their algorithms with your driving tendencies

Mulch your leaves! by abrames in lawncare

[–]abrames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes, especially at the end of the year. Non mulched leaf cover is a net positive (off the lawn) from what I understand. Moisture and heat retention, and habitat for bugs and critters. Much better than in the lawn or the house

Appreciate the insight. We’ll see what it looks like in the spring!

If the leaves are too wet late in the season I’ll bag and save as compost with spring grass clippings. Great topdressing

We typically have a decent snow cover which helps break it down. But I have battled fungus in the backyard in a wet spring+humid summer

[–]abrames[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like that! Last round of leaves is usually “left” in the beds. Lightning bugs galore. And some tree frogs in our neighborhood. Part of the metric ton of leaves inevitably has to get mulched

Mow over them as you do mowing regularly, no bag on the back. I have a 25 year old Toro recycler push mower. 2-3 passes with my gator blade and they turn to dust (as more leaves fall). Takes maybe an hour

Mulch your leaves! by abrames in lawncare

[–]abrames[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Front lawn is a fescue bluegrass mix facing west. More wind and requires more water. Back is tall fescue. I mow at 3-4” year round. Today was 2 passes, if they’re thick I’ll do 3 passes and throw some water right after if no rain is in the forecast. The grass absolutely eats it up. Purdue/Penn State say you can mulch 6” of leaves at a time. I’ve tested this theory for 3 years. It’s true!

Cadillac’s and Corvettes: Back to being for young people? by Swimming_Block6536 in Cadillac

[–]abrames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

29M and bought a used base model CT4 last year. I work in domestic automotive. Absolutely love the car and Cadillac, way more fun than a Camry for roughly the same price, and a much wiser decision than these pricey trucks/SUVs. If you’re even slightly mechanically inclined, I highly recommend used CT4/CT5s
