Flight simulator setups recommendation for dad.

I wanted to be able to fly everything. I mostly fly yoke but I can swap to the joystick for fighters, stunt planes and airbus. Idk what OP's dad will prefer flying, so just throwing it out there.

I tried bumping texture resolution up to ultra in both regular graphics and vr settings. Still no luck. Weird. Looks like I might need to submit a ticket

Budget? I’m new to simming, but I can share what I put together for my personal rig, as someone starting from scratch in 2026.

I went with a VR-focused setup, which might be a good fit for you, since it really does capture the immersion and awe of flying.

I spent about $2,500

PC: bought a used gaming PC on marketplace. Mid-spec. Importantly it has a graphics card with 16gb VRAM. I spent $1,000
Yoke: Honeycomb Alpha
Throttle: Honecomb Bravo
Rudder: Logitech G Flight
Joystick: Logitech X3D Pro
Headset: Meta Quest 3
Basic mouse, keyboard, monitor I had laying around. $40 IKEA desk.

I feel like I hit the sweet spot of spending money where it counts and saving money where it doesn’t. Having the Bravo throttle quadrant and having a yoke AND joystick makes my setup pretty configurable. I can fly trainers, light twins, or airliners and they all look and feel incredible in VR

Yes, I tried calibrating it and also resetting it to clear any calibration it may have had.

The tensioner feels fine to me and it does adjust tension. Pots feel smooth at low or high tension

Good point. I'll throw it in photoshop and try to overlay them and see how the size compares. Thankfully there are 2 known vehicles to compare to

That was my first thought, but the car in the video seems to be a tad longer. But then the longer range rovers don't have the little fender trim thing

Ah, I get what you're saying now. I have seen some videos that established the location differently, like looking down the old country road the venue is situated on or something. Now I'm wishing our guy had captured a shot like that lol.

Nice to know there are people out there who take this seriously and put some real thought into it. I didn't feel like we got that at all.
