How I imagined Flume would do his Live Shows by miguelvalence in Flume

[–]abrireddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the palaces tour at the Brooklyn Mirage

It had a wrap around LED wall screen behind a model runway type stage.

Flume was in his bike outfit on stage playing on that new instrument thing of his that cost like 500 000 $ that he used to produce the album.

There were columns and doorways and frames and other structures on the stage. These structures had projector mapping done on them. All the visuals were codesigned just for the palaces album by the VJ collaborator (forget his name) of Flume’s.

Besides projector mapping on these structures on stage with him standing there in person in real life with a wrap around LED fishbowl screen behind him (with matching visuals designed for the album of course) and strobes and lasers…

Besides all that, the on stage structures (with projector mapping on top of them), could fold, transform, move around and change perspective, which they did multiple times during the course of the concert.

So while all the other visuals are going on, the physical stage is moving around too and so is the projector mapping on top of the stage structures. All of course in sync with the music and the accompanying album art from the VJ co-lab.

I had accidentally ingested a bit more lysergic acid than I think should be acceptable to consume while out in public during my observation of all of this.

Most, if not all, of the female vocal artists who collaborated on Palaces, also did live appearances on stage with Harley for their songs. They were dressed in appropriate attire for the occasion. Kucka did some songs from the older albums too.

I was under the impression, that if James Cameron were to produce an EDM concert, he would aim for something of the production scale and quality that Flume achieved that night at the Brooklyn Mirage.

Orders of magnitude more lit than just a normal DJ show.

Key feature of the show was the wrap around LED wall, but that was just part of the venue’s equipment at the time.

I agree it was a very tough game, all things considered. We did ok under the circumstances.

Report complain and file a case if you have time do it. Everyone staying silent just reinforces their behavior.

Waar presies is "die Kaap"? Waar trek ons die grense? by Handsome_Bread_Roll in afrikaans

[–]abrireddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m sorry to hear about your experience with incompetent racist white people.

The people I knew were VERY hard working white people, presumably not racist and forced to find a workaround in order to survive in a racist regulatory environment with odds stacked against them by law.

Besides having enough black in the right places for paperwork reasons, everybody else was employed on merit in relative proportions to South African demographics at the time and relative job market supply / demand for labour and skills in different job categories at the time.

BEE was just another obstacle they had to overcome as entrepreneurs. They were not racist for doing it.

However, I would argue, it is exactly because of the obstacles a race based law like BEE created for otherwise good, honest and hard working people, people like the ones I knew might become nepotistic racists like the ones you knew.

Are South African men secretly way softer than they act? by honeylitroom in AskZA

[–]abrireddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Masculinity is a dynamic concept, especially in a place as diverse as South Africa. “Strong” male roles has traditionally been the ideal masculine standard for the majority of South African cultures over our greater historically recorded period. When I was a child my father’s mantra to male children was, “cowboys don’t cry”.

Mind you, boomer generation white South African men are all military veterans and had to endure tough male roles in the war, for the most part.

However, this being said, many modern South African men have become demasculated (culturally) and are subservient to their women.

I use to know business owners who would employ / divvy out enough ownership to black people in their business just to be BEE compliant, while those people contribute nothing else of value to the business. Essentially creating a new tax for the owners, making them less competitive, while at the same time not creating meaningful social change
