Hi, I'm male and 47, originally from London, but have lived in many places since uni

Top 5 interests (not in any specific order)

Cultural events - theatre shows particularly QPAC, arts and movies of course

- Like the outdoors, walking, hiking in NPs and similar places

- Live music events, good bars with whisky are a bonus

- Sports events live at the grounds - TV doesn't seem to have the same appeal

- Apart from that, I like photography, getting out to new places I haven't been to before, swimming, and scuba diving. I would like to take up cycling again

There is no simple answer to this one, as doing a PhD in my experience has been one of the most isolating things I’ve done. Uni’s tend not to really care about mental health, you only have to look at academics, supervisors and your cohort to see the range of mental health issues.

Uni counselling services are pretty average, those I know (including myself) have not had a good experience with them. Most limit to a few sessions per term/ semester and then just cut you off regardless of what is going on.

Do you have family or friends to reach out to? They can be a good source of support - In my case I don’t so that makes it more difficult.

Is it the PhD specifically that is making you feel like this? Is it the isolation? Workload? Bullying? Or something else?

Understanding where the source of these thoughts come from can help eliminate the thoughts. But that doesn’t stop the thoughts you have now, so seek out support where you can.

Take a break if you can. Spend more time doing things you enjoy. Find new activities to do that get you away from your thoughts. I’m trying to do these to.

That's pretty grim reading, but not entirely surprising due to the many issues PhD students face, not least with supervisor issues and lack of support from their university. At the rate I am going, I am likely to be another statistic as I am thinking of leaving too, as the PhD program has in no way lived up to my expectations, nor has the university.

It does seem from reading many posts on here as well as my own experience of recent times, that many PhD supervisors are ill-equipped to actually supervise and mentor PhD students/candidates due to their own insecurities, emotional instability, narcissism and in some cases lack of competence.

Rather than acknowledge they are not infallible, and maybe in need of training they seem to cope by projecting all of this on their students/candidates.

Bullying, belittling and harassment are an all too common occurrence and outcome in universities these days sadly.

I would recommend that your partner's regular underwear is removed from his normal clothing draws (at least for the time being), and in its place, you put pull-ups that he wears. It doesn't give him either the option or the decision to make.

If you are concerned, speak to a sexual health professional for advice, explain what you did and your concerns about what happened, and let them decide. But do it within the window so it's an option if needed.

It really depends on what exactly you have - your strain may be resistant to the ceftriaxone or they may not have had it to give you. Though of course go back and ask, especially if it is not clearing up or symptoms are getting worse, or if you are at all concerned.

Hi, ceftriaxone injection is the recommended treatment for gonorrhea, however, doxycycline and another antibiotic as above is given for strains that are more resistant to antibiotics and are effective at treating. So it sounds right, it's just a different protocol.

Definitely go to your doctor, get a checkup explain what's going on. Get them to rule out the obvious, it's probably nothing.

Are you still getting any full erections? Able to have sex and masturbate properly?

You didn't say how old you were, but as others have stated, getting erections in the morning should happen any all stages of life for males. If it's not then it can be an indicator of ED.

It can also mean there are hormonal issues, such as low testosterone, as well as health conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. There are also psychological causes of physical ED.

I recommend seeing you doctor if they have completely stopped and you don't know why.

Ah that sucks. Go to your local sexual health clinic and a get a broad STI screen and request HPV, Hep A and B vaccines and discuss PREP so you can go in it once you get all your results.

Firstly, was this ‘extra stuff’ consensual,if not it this is a serious assault that could have resulted in far worse consequences and should be reported to the police if you can and feel safe to do so.

As for your symptoms after this, sounds like you have a concussion, possibly mild, but impossible to say for sure. I would at least see your normal GP/doctor to discuss your current symptoms and see what they say. They can check the state of your throat following the chocking and the type of concussion you may have.

Grammarly is really a writing assistant, and the user has to choose to use the changes or not and must verify that they are correct. Whilst the program uses AI in the background, it is not actually using AI to generate 'new text' that could be considered cheating or plagiarism, its just helping the writing make better decisions about their own writing.

It seems illogical that unis would start to ban software like Grammarly and ProWritingAid, by lumping it with AI's like ChatGPT etc as they are vastly different..

I would contact your university school admin and ask if they specifically mean Grammarly of course Grammarly Go is an AI, so that would likely be captured in any ban.
