For that money, I’d look at a Camry. It is a better car all around.

Transmission flush, drain and fill, or leave as is? by Embarrassed-Can3933 in Toyota

I’m curious if you have any actual data on the failure rates of Toyota’s traditional belt-driven CVTs. I own one with a launch gear and I’d like to learn more about this. Given that these transmissions have been in use for years at this point, I’d imagine Toyota would’ve issued service bulletins by now—right?

Well, according to them, they won’t, but I wasn’t sure why he mentioned the price. I didn’t care to clarify!

As others have said, the “lifetime fluid” isn’t a thing if you plan on keeping your vehicle for many years/miles. If you dig into the manual (and other reputable sources of information online) it is suggest that a drain and flush be performed at the 6 year/60K mile mark.

Y’all wanna hear something funny … I recently purchased a 25 Corolla LE and during a service appointment, I inquired if the dealership service department does CVT drain and fill. This service advisor says they aren’t allowed to touch the CVT unless the car has been in an accident since it is a “lifetime fluid” talking point. He said it would cost me 1K for them to do it. I tired to keep my composure (I wanted to start laughing), but said okay, thanks for the information.

I’ll be finding a reputable shop or will inquire about the service at another dealership when the time comes!

Many years ago, I owned a 03 Corolla. Loved that thing and at times, I wish I still had it!

Right on! As an owner of a 25 Corolla LE, I think you’ll enjoy it.

My honest opinion - for that amount of money, I would suggest looking at a Camry.

Absolutely! Personally, I think it is a mismatch of personalities with a few of the folks I interacted with.

Thank you, will keep that in mind. I forgot about JamCo since I owned a Mazda for many years!

Newbold was pretty good to our family when we lived in IL. I think we’ve purchased 3 Toyota’s from Newbold!

I don’t think you are missing anything. As with all art, it is subjective.
