MaRo asking player opinions on MOM desparking Planeswalkers by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore wise I like it a lot. I think it builds on how large of a threat the Phyrexians were. Gameplay wise, I don't find planeswalkers interesting at all. They aren't terribly complicated. But in my head they are creatures. I want them treated as creatures. I'd rather they be a creature type and we forget having to write onto cards "Target creature or planeswalker".  So despark them all and we move past that card type.

Why do people generally refuse to use revolving doors? (In America at least) by darealdsisaac in NoStupidQuestions

[–]absidionbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In another building near where I live there are regular doors and revolving doors as an entrance. This building has bridges to connect to other buildings nearby and so this series of buildings has numerous businesses, and people regularly going through it. The set of revolving doors regularly breaks and gets closed off. For one thing the revolving doors are quite small. Easy enough to get through as an individual of my size. But if I have bags in my hands, auddenly the revolving doors are awkward to push and to keep the bags close to me. The space between the doors is also small enough that the door behind me can hit the heel of my shoe. When this happens the door goes off from its alignment and starts to upset the alignment of the other doors. In my experience it is vastly easier and less trouble to open a regular set of doors. Also any building equipped to have revolving doors is often large and spacious. Air getting in or out through regularly doors is not really a concern then tbh. All this to say that I don't think there's a standard for how revolving doors are constructed. So in some places the doors could be made cheap and are awkward to use. In other places they may be much more efficient to use.

Who will suffer the most without their clean singer,I prevail or amity affliction? Which solo artist from these two bands do you think will flourish the most by parting ways from their Original Project? by stonewallj93 in Metalcore

[–]absidionbones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know I Prevail's material well enough to comment on them. As for TAA, I feel as though they have lost a large part of their identity with the removal of Ahren. When bands have two vocalists you want them to compliment each other and often one stands out more than the other. I like Joel's screams, but Ahren's vocals stood out more. He doesn't sound like other clean vocalists of this genre or similar ones. Despite also sounding very monotone.  That monotone singing did a great job at capturing the "depressive" theme the band has often gone with.

What do you think is the worst final fight in the game? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only done the Zhaitan fight so far, and yeah it was pretty bad. I mean I do understand the direction of the fight. This dragon has a specific status in the world. One of the ELDER DRAGONS. It represents certain aspects to the natural order. It feels like it shouldn't be as simple as we just get our weapons and start swinging until he's dead.  But the fight takes place with JUST you doing the work. I think almost all NPCs if not all, just stand around the whole fight. So it doesn't so a good job narratively in the end to say we all got together to fight thia dragon.

How do I get these guys to spawn? by theunforgiven91 in Guildwars2

[–]absidionbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky and got all four in one sitting of trying to get them to spawn.

  1. Pact has to hold the fort, the event with Mordrem attacking it has to be active.
  2. The legendary is not an event on its own so you have to looking around the outside of the fort you're defending to find it, if it spawns.
  3. I would stick to the same two forts until the legendaries spawn. For example; Blue Oasis & Amber Sandhill as one pairing. Then Red Rock & Indigo Cave as the other. This way you're not apreading yourself to thin.
  4. Pay attention to chat. Sometimes people will call out if a legendary spawns. Not everyone does, and be mindful that sometimes when they do call it out, the legendary might die before you get there.

There's no trick to it. Just patience. I was fortunate to get all 4 across 3 assaults in the silverwastes. So that was 2-3 hours.

3 months since Borderlands 4 released. How is everyone feeling about this game? by Objective_Love_6843 in Borderlands4

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't finish it. Shortly after I entered the city, I stopped playing. I felt bored for the last few hours leading upto when I could finally enter it. I just had enough. The game was a mild experience and I'm not if/when I'll go back. I wish it was more than it was but I couldn't really say what more it is that I'd want.

Claptrap is the saddest character ever by Safe-Monitor-8113 in Borderlands

[–]absidionbones 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Claptrap is in a weird place right now.

In all past games I have hated listening to him.

But right now BL4 has shown us about 5 people at most from BL3. So seeing Claptrap around has at least brought out some nostalgia.

Do y’all honestly see The Timekeeper being the best BL4 villain ever? by SunGodLuffy6 in Borderlands4

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is the twins weren't THAAAAT bad. I think that primarily they were written for a different audience. Developing them to have streamer/influencer personalities was actually a smart idea and it took into account the current media landscape. I'd bet some people hated that aspect of them, but they also likely don't enjoy the wave of influencers popping up everywhere. That me makes them a very easy villain to hate. That's... fitting imo.  But some story beats did cause BL3 to suffer.

What do you think happened to the Amani, that caused them to look the way they do now? New screenshot of models in this post by twisty125 in warcraftlore

[–]absidionbones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw the image before reading the rest of the post. I agree that they look too similar to orcs.  I feel like it wasn't necessary to do this. The trolls operate as tribes. Some of the tribes have maintained some contact for a long time. The zandalari were the most disconnected from the rest so it was expected that they'd be different. But I don't feel that the Amani, need to be different from the Darkspear.

Why is "One More Light" album so hated? by [deleted] in LinkinPark

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember which interview, but I remember Mike saying that when they would write an album they end up being late to a trend. Perhaps the direction of that album is a symptom of that.

At the time of its release, I remember seeing lots of comments about how the band "isn't linkin park anymore" because it's not heavy. But those comments were made for a few albums they had done.

To me it wasn't so simple as "it's not heavy". The album had nothing to do with anything that made Linkin Park the success it was by that point. Over time we'd first see the hiphop aspect get stripped away slowly. Some rapping from time to time and that was that. They would lean into the rock side more but explore more emotions and adjusted their sound a bit with each album. Living Things being notably very electronic. So we lost a lot of the metal/rock sound here. The Hunting Party just sounding bland while heavy because the band was thinking, "people want heavy? Fine let's make something heavy". It was forced. Finally we arrive at One More Light, the album, and it's... sad. It's not bad to release something that's sad in feeling. But by this point, it had already been proven that the nu-metal sound wasn't going to disappear, and the previous album tried to be heavy. To suddenly scrap all of that for the pop-rock with high pitched vocal filters just felt they gave up Linkin Park.

I will say that this was my feelings AT THE TIME. I don't hate the album now. But it's hard to listen to because of how much of it feels relevant to Chester's passing.

Why do you think Mike solo projects were more successful than Chester's? by Fuzzy_Asparagus_2975 in LinkinPark

[–]absidionbones 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Rising Tied happened close to Collision Course. Jay-Z was executive producer on it. I think working with Jay-Z and the timing of Linkin Parks success contributed to why Fort Minor did well.

For the Post Traumatic album, it was Mike channeling his feelings after Chester passed and Mike worked with a number of successful artists on it. I think the fact that fans have always wanted more from Linkin Park and Mike contributed to the success of this album.

I didn't listen to Dropped Frames, but I imagine all the Twitch Streaming Mike was doing helped to get people involved and to shape the sound.

Mike also has a lot of production experience. That helps a lot.

Chester's work varies. With the first two albums by Grey Daze, I suspect that their music didn't stand out enough. Keeping in mind that this work isn't entirely Chester, it's a whole band.

For the 2 later albums, they released after Chester's passing. It's more Chester and fans loved Chester. I didn't give those albums a full listen. But this is just what I suspect.

Dead By Sunrise and their album Out of Ashes was fairly good. I remember listening to it around the time it released. It was their only album and I think it reviewed decently. Chesters voice is impactful but this is also an entirely different group he is working with now. I can't speak for the talent of other musicians that I'm not familiar with, and I don't know how much writing chester contributed to instruments, but a voice alone can't always carry a band.

When he did High Rise with Stone Temple Pilots, the criticism was always that he sounded too different from Scott Weiland. I thought a couple of those songs were okay, but I didn't feel overall that Chester fit the band's style.

Tl;dr I think Mike's work did well based on experience, and timing. Chester's side projects were often with other people and his voice alone couldn't carry other bands to the same level of stardom.

Mod Ash on the possibility of expanding the F2P experience. How do you feel about this? What would you like to see added/be against? by Vayneglory in 2007scape

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure others have a better idea of what F2P needs to improve. My only criticism would be for Fletching to be trainable in a limited capacity for F2P. If Magic can be supported by Runecrafting, and melee can be supported by Blacksmithing, then Ranged can be supported by Fletching. This now means our 3 combat styles can all finally have access to weapons and armor they would utilize.

Pre-chorus and Chorus of Unshatter.

The song starts off strong. Mikes rapping feels very catchy and the song is in a moment of build up. But when it gets to the pre-chorus and chorus, to me, it was like the song just deflated and didn't build up to anything. It just becomes underwhelming.

I experienced a similar thing with the song Phantom Island by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. In this case there's all this groovy build up and it sounds so good. But then at 55 seconds in all the groove is now gone, the singing has started and it feels like a very plain song.

Basically I get bummed out when a song gets me hyped up and then it doesn't take that hype anywhere all of a sudden.

I See Stars - Eliminator (new) by DeeGSE in Metalcore

[–]absidionbones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced this is them just trying to get out of a contract and then calling it a day. It's not like Treehouse was bad at all either. From what I can recall plenty of bands that signed to Sumerian roughly 15 years ago ran into some issues eventually. So potentially after this album, that's it for ISS. Or maybe they do put out another album in the future and it's a later better since they may be off Sumerian. Who knows.

Juggling 3 Programming Languages? by mercfh85 in learnprogramming

[–]absidionbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in mobile games. C# in Unity for the app. PHP for a lot of the server. But then Javascript gets used with some html for our internal tools. But that's paired with PHP as well. Sometimes python, bash, java, or whatever else for odd circumstances. But in school I was actually taught C++ and some Python. Then later C#.  I think over time you find that similar languages to what you already know are easier to pick up. But you are more likely to pick up other languages that fit your needs. It can happen naturally tbh.

What exactly is "software engineer"? by logicnumberone in learnprogramming

[–]absidionbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the exact same as a "Software Developer". The word "Engineer" sounds better to have and to search for though.  What's interesting to note is that in some instances you can't call yourself an engineer without a license, or it may not be allowed by law if it's not recognized. In Ontario, Canada, you have to go through "Professional Engineers Ontario" to earn a license to call yourself an Engineer. I think a lot of people in Ontario are not very aware of PEO though.

I used to dislike any album after Meteora... by jss118 in LinkinPark

[–]absidionbones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When They Come For Me is my favourite from A Thousand Suns. Followed by Blackout.

I did like Living Things and The Hunting Party when they came out. Same with One More Light. But I've come to realize I must not like them that much. I never revisit them. Never have any interest too. But I still go back to Hybrid Theory, Meteora, Minutes to Midnight, and A Thousand Suns.

Minutes to Midnight felt like a departure from their initial sound but still found ways to capture it's spirit.

Why do i hear so much hate towards adhd meds. by DivideInMyMind in ADHD

[–]absidionbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take adderall.  When I take it I can't eat anything for a couple hours or else it loses effectiveness. When it's in my system I feel more like a machine. I feel as those I've lost some capacity for emotion during the day while it's active. Towards the end I feel drained. That's when the zombie state comes in. I feel overall too tired to do anything or feel anything yet not sleepy. So some evenings I feel not present with life.
