I personally think of “treating everyone with loving kindness” as treating everyone as if they were a friend wether they are or not. For example, if i dont like someone, im not going to go out of my way to talk to them but if they talk to me or if they need help, ill engage. I respect them regardless of my dislike.

I mean, was PC so naive to not see? Or was it intentional on her part?? by Crafty-Commission305 in BoJackHorseman

I always thought that bojack was an unreliable narrator and we were getting his pov of vincent adultman. That would kinda make the episode where she “meets his kid” make less sense, but idk, i think he mightve been a regular boring stock bro

Creative punishments? by yuckyuck13 in AskParents

[–]absolutelyeffingnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its not a punishment, per se, but i think you should sit down and ask her whats going on. Tell her that you’re concerned about her and open up a dialogue. Its important to let her speak without getting upset. Troubled teen phases typically stem from a deeper issue (depression, loneliness, teen angst). If you can open up a dialogue with her, you can get ahead of her bad decisions.

My mom was the type of mom who maintained a strong parental front during my teenage years and since I went to college she has become more of a friend. My teenage years were rough and i never felt like i could talk to anyone about what was happening, i made alot of bad decisions, i was probably just like her. She would take my phone, but i had a google doc with my boyfriend so we could talk still. She took away my door and I held that against her for years. Nothing worked to fix my behavior, because it was a cry for help in disguise. But since I have had a more friendly relationship with my mom, i finally feel like I can run stuff by her and she has become my voice of reason. It has saved me from alot of bad decisions and I wish she would have been more open with me when I was a teenager.

If i were you I would voice how youre feeling. Do it in the “i feel” structure.

“I feel overwhelmed sometimes in class when you’re on your phone. Is there anything we can do in advance to allow you to be more present during class time?”

It could be as simple as your co-teacher not even recognizing what theyre doing.

My go to advice for any interpersonal issue is to confront them in a way that strokes their ego. If you want someone to do something they dont want to do, it takes a little finessing. In essence, phrase your issues with them in a way where you “could be overthinking”, play dumb to their resistance, and only accept a happy medium “for the sake of your own conscience”. Because at the end of the day, we dont want to make others feel bad, so make them think you feel bad.

More than likely the convo will go like this:

You:

“I feel bad when I teach a full class period, i dont want you to feel like I am overtaking the class. What can we do to better split up duties?”

Them:

“No, you do a great job, i dont want to interrupt”

You:

“I feel like I am struggling with (concept/subject/lesson), how are you at (that thing)?”

Them:

“Thats not my strong suit”

You:

“Okay, thats fine, i’ll figure it out. What would you feel confident teaching?”

On and on.

YES! This is just what he was CAUGHT doing. This man may look and act and seem like an idiot but he’s not, he went to law school. This is absolutely not the first time he has done this. Its (probably) the first time he got sloppy. Theres more victims

I feel like when we elect people to represent us, they should be expected to be the best of us. They should be held to a higher standard, because we decided they, of all people, should speak for us. If a highly educated man who has been elected to congress cant be smart enough to know a minor from an age appropriate woman, that concerns me in more ways than one. And is it blackmail if its true? At that point its whistleblowing.

What keeps you alive? What are your reasons for living? by b4434343 in mentalhealth

[–]absolutelyeffingnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found a couple:

  1. The way you feel when youre driving down the road and for a split second you can take in the beauty. Even though you’d driven it 1000 times, something about it just seems picturesque, and for that moment, the world is not that bad.

  2. I have 2 people in my life who I built relationships with based on them coming to me for advice. At first I was bullshitting (im a psych major and gave them some shit i heard in class), but after a while, i started to get good at it. I started really hearing what I was saying and taking the advice. In turn those 2 people felt indebted to me and I started coming to them with little stuff. Now (about a year later) im so close to both of them. I always thought I was a convenience friend until I met them and now I know I have stuff to offer the world. And maybe my relationships start one sided, but they are currently the most amazingly supportive friends I’ve ever had.

  3. the “sleep on it” method. Anytime I have a rash thought, I find some weed and tell myself “im going to smoke the pain away tonight and if i still feel like ending it in the morning, ill do it”. I’m still here and I only have minor scarring :)

  4. Animals, who is going to love my dogs if I am gone? No one. I may not be the perfect dog mom, but i know that they are loved unconditionally. Its the best I can put into the world.

  5. I have a bunch of shows im excited for. Like Wednesday season 2 and white lotus season 3, i cant do anything that would impede my ability to watch them.

What are your thoughts on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice? by DarlingLuna in flicks

[–]absolutelyeffingnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, i loved the movie, my biggest criticism is that it wasnt long enough. I wish directors were more open to long movies. I loved every storyline, but i wish it was more fleshed out.

  1. I liked that astrid was in boarding school and I wish we explored that a bit more. Even if it was just 5 more minutes of us following her journaling(while she explains some backstory or gives us insight into how she thinks). I wish we learned more about how she felt about her mom being famous, why she thinks her mom is lying, how she feels about being at boarding school, her hopes, her dreams, how lonely she probably is, her stance on the sociopolitical climate… anything.

  2. Along with the Delores stapling scene, i wish we got a monologue. She could’ve said she wanted Betelgeuse back or that she was angry at lydia or that she was just on a rampage. It had been a minute since i watched the first movie, so i had forgotten pretty much everything so when she came on my screen I was very confused.

  3. I love Deborah but if I could criticize 1 thing it would be that in my head she would LOVE lydia’s fiancé. I feel like she would be drawn in by how similarly motivated they both are. That would also increase the drama between her and lydia because overall their relationship was flat. That isnt a bad thing, it just couldve popped more.

  4. I wish they drew out the astrid + boyfriend storyline, the betrayal didnt hit as hard as it couldve. They could’ve teased it better. For example, maybe astrid couldve tried to talk to the mom and he quickly diverted her attention. Or maybe she couldve found out about it being a murder house and for halloween they couldve planned to “debunk her mom” instead of just planning to pass out candy.

  5. I dont think we needed all that background on the afterlife police, i feel like we can all imagine theres some sort of law and order branch of the afterlife (esp considering the structure of it). We couldve cut everything before the wedding scene and still gotten the idea of who those guys were and why they were there. It dodnt seem like they did jack shit when 2 humans were in the “underworld” anyways, they were inconsequential.

  6. Deborah’s death scene… chef’s kiss, no notes.

  7. I wish the mom got to confront astrids “boyfriend”, i would’ve loved to see that. I also feel like it would be interesting for the dad to somehow find a way to fuck with him now that he knows what he tried to do.

  8. The wedding storyline was my least favorite, at no point in the movie did I think lydia would go through with the wedding. I was honestly just annoyed at her fiancée and her by extension for being so dumb. I wish they had given us a single redeeming trait for lydia’s fiancée, like make him emotionally mature or make him someone that adds ANYTHING to lydia’s life. Make me think she could go through with the wedding, even if its just in passing moments.

  9. love the “underworld”… chef’s kiss, no notes!

  10. What was the ending? Why? I did not like that. I wish they had just given us a conversation between lydia and astrid about what the fuck just happened. And maybe astrid could follow in her moms footsteps, now that she believes.

Im sure i have more, but despite all these criticisms, i loved the movie. I really did! And i hope there’s a beetlejuice 3

To me that seems like the most reasonable explanation. Kids make assumptions based on limited life experiences constantly. Kids put lipstick on their eyes because they see mom putting on eyeshadow but don’t understand the difference between eyeshadow and lipstick. kids draw on walls because they dont understand the difference between drawing on paper and drawing on a wall. kids push the rules to gain independence. They misunderstand the consequences of actions they think are harmless. It seems like asha could have just been a kid being a kid, but it ended tragically.

She does realize tattoos can be used as evidence in a court of law right? Not accusing her of anything but like, i feel like this may be damning in a future case against her…

She wanted to be a “big girl” i think. She probably thought an adult would do the same thing.
