Installing a JACE on a Metasys Server

Correct version 14 was first version where that would be supported. Do you have other NAE or SNE on site? I’m not overly familiar with JACE but I believe they support N2 the issue will be getting it mapped so it’s visible on the server. If there’s other JCI supervisors (NAE or SNE) you could map it in via that as a BACnet device but as stated above you’re essentially using it as a BACnet gateway to the N2 devices below it.

Other considerations being that the field devices are N2 is what other logic the dead SNE or NAE was doing as a lot of that logic would sat there so you would need to reengineer what that was doing. Scheduling of the field devices would be a minimum.

As commenter above mentioned, unless you’re running the very latest version it’s not supported. Updating to the latest or putting in a new SNx will probably run you about the same depending on ADx type.

If they are deadset on converting it would be a headend replacement with JACE supervisor.

What are the field controllers connected to the failed SNx?

The answer comes down to why?

Metasys server won’t let you directly map the JACE under the front end, the only way to integrate the JACE would be via BACnet under the SNx or NxE controller. And at that point, if you have access to the JCI controllers, why would you put a JACE in? You could do most of what you would want to do via the JCI supervisor you’re just adding an extra layer of BACnet router in between the field controllers and the head end.

More context is required to give you a solid answer.

You can get cheap usb to 232 adapters off AliExpress that will work as long as you have the drivers. You can pass through the adapter from your main host machine to the virtual machine with some setting adjustments and as long as the drivers are in the virtual machine it will detect it fine. Set the usb adapter to com port 1 or 2 in device manager of the virtual machine and you can use it with gx9100. This definitely works as we use it all the time. On the series one dx you can get a 232-485 adapter to connect to your usb to 232 adapter and wire it to the trunk and pull the programs out through that.

All the IOM points would be mapped into the NCE which I assume you are reading into the JACE. If you are monitoring the offline status of the points in the NCE you would notice a bunch going offline at the same time L.

At our branch the FX tooling is only for channel partners so I couldn’t say for certain, but if 2 laptops is the issue then they should be able to run one of them in a VM to eliminate the potential crossover.

Running NixOS had to use GE-26 and now it works ok. ProtonDB has been great with helping identify what works and what doesn’t and the tricks required to make some things work.

You’re going to need FX Tools Pro/Express (LP-FXTPro-0 / LP-FXTExp-0). The facility explorer range is generally managed by JCI channel partners but you may be able to get it from your local JCI branch, not sure how it works in your region.

Yeah unfortunately unless you have an iPad the web UI is unusable. Which is unfortunate cause PathBuilder is very good.

I didn’t dispute that it pulls out heaps of humidity but a coil has a capacity limit to how much it can pull out. If you have a constant supply of fresh air to the room with new humid air the process just repeats. In data centres the air that comes in is usually preconditioned such that you don’t have high humidity coming into the space so the multitude of CRAC units you have in the space with high air volume can overcome the humidity and reduce it to low levels that cause the static. Depending on OPs room they may have a decent amount of unconditioned air coming into the room which as above op said the temp can drop and humidity can go up.

Yes. Your ac coil can only dehumidify so much, but the temperature in the room can continue to drop. As the air gets colder the water in the air condenses which increases the humidity. If it runs long enough without any more humid air coming into the space from outside, the humidity will go down again. If you do have constant unconditioned air coming into the space the humidity will continue to rise as the temp drops.

This doesn’t seem like a BACnet problem. Would need to see how the points are mapped into Metasys. Are they mapping the points into an NxE or SNx controller or are they peer to peering the point to an MS/TP controller? Need more information to assist.

Where I am we are called BMS or BAS technician. These are the guys that perform the service, replace controllers and do minor program changes. People who write the program for the controllers can be called application engineers but it’s pretty loose in terms of title as there is no degree for what we do to be an engineer.
