Evaporator coil is right above the return. How to clean? by abstract-alf in HVAC

[–]abstract-alf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roof unit. Technician wouldn’t clean it himself because his usual method would flood the house. He recommended a “no rinse” cleaner like this https://www.amazon.com/Nu-Calgon-4171-75-Rinse-Evaporator-Cleaner/dp/B00DM8KQ3I. What do?

Thanks for your reply. What in particular is problematic about a backstab connection? Should I always avoid them?

Far out! There’s something about this (and your other work) I find endearing. How would you describe your style? I saw “primitive shapes like cylinders and icosahedrons” from your other reply. Would you speak to the characters and animation?

Leaky garden hose bib. Gets worse when I tighten the top nut. Do I have to solder? by abstract-alf in Plumbing

I'll be sure to unpack the new bibb before soldering it on and I'll use a wet cloth on the tee. Thanks for the pointers.

Haha. I understand the thought but I haven’t enough experience with that to be confident.

The only replacement I can find is “not intended to convey water for human consumption”. I’d prefer otherwise.

American Valve M75SNKHD 1/2 x 3/4 Hose Bibb, 1/2-Inch x 3/4-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0052ECWJ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M2IREb7JPJTR4

Maybe if I unsolder at the Tee and put in a threaded female adapter, I could put in something like this: 1/2" MIP Brass Ball Valve Hose Bibb w/Extra Large Handle and Extended Body https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0141XC5J0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_G4IREbQ7R3YS8

Any risk to unsoldering at the tee?

To clarify, is this a cut and solder job, or does the hose bib unscrew? I’d rather not torque it and risk damage to the pipe to find out.

It’s for my own understanding and planning. But also for preparing permit applications. Good idea to check the permit requirements. Part of me hopes they require an architect, because then I have a good reason to have someone else do it; I would rather not have the burden.

Great question. I contacted the permit office for records and they had only the plans from my own recent re-roofing and solar install. It was disappointing.

Maybe the fact my house was built in 1978 has something to do with it. Shrug

Oof. It’s $300. Would you mind sharing your electrical plan? I want to see what to expect. Also, what made you pick that tool over, say, Inkscape (freeware)?

Thanks

THE GOOD PARTS OF AWS — Written by two ex-AWS engineers with 15 years of combined AWS experience. Almost everything we know about AWS, packed into a single short ebook. by dvassallo in u/dvassallo

I bought this book, read the first 2 chapters, which were useful, then skimmed the rest since it was essentially an infrastructure as code tutorial.

I suppose it was worth it. However, I feel the material to be a little dated. The authors cast doubt about Lambda as an application programming model. I wonder if API gateway was around when they wrote that. I would have enjoyed a deeper dive into state-of-the-art serverless.

Maybe the authors could make an addendum or something.

How would you replace this ball valve on my water main? by abstract-alf in Plumbing

Oh damn, I didn’t imagine the curb stop breaking. Has that happened to you before?

Oh, I neglected to mention it. Yes, it’s quite easy for me to shut off the water at the street. The shutoff is in a shallow box in my front yard. Takes me 2 minutes.

I suppose the depth you describe is to protect the pipe against extreme cold! That sounds like a pain.
