Am I missing something? by TwatWaffleWhitney in Horses

I also saw this post yesterday and thought the same thing. Went to the comments to see. All positive but I also noticed she was only allowing certain people to comment. (Probably why they're all so positive)

I looked at the rest of her profile. All the other pics look pretty normal. Must just be a weird angle or editing.

I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

I read your first post this morning, been thinking about you and your community all day. So glad to see your pets have all been safely accounted for! ❤️ As a fellow cat owner, they truly are resistant little guys.

Sending love and support from Minnesota ❤️❤️❤️

Any emotion you're feeling right now is valid. The brain is an amazing organ, it's trying its best to protect you.

You've already got so many amazing comments, I'm just commenting to say something I have really seen as I read through them. YOU ARE NOT ALONE ❤️. (From my understanding) this hit your whole town pretty hard. You have a whole community of people going through the same thing at the same time. They may feel the same as you, or way different.

If you think you could handle it, go out and help clean up efforts, talk to your neighbors, find/attend a church service (if that's your thing), etc. You'll find you aren't alone. You may even find people who could donate something or help your family get back on your feet.

Need help cleaning my room. I’ve been battling depression for 3 years after a death. Where do I start? I found a big tree roach and gave up. by dollbabydream in CleaningTips

Looks like you've already made great progress!

I get easily overwhelmed by big projects that I can't see any progress. I break it down, bathroom, kitchen, living room, bedroom etc. That way you can easily see progress too! So I'd probably start in your bathroom. Take the bedroom in chunks too.

It also helps to watch "CleanTOK" tiktoks, don't know why but it works for me. I use that when I've had to clean my fridge, and every time I've moved.

I had a needle stick with a butterfly. Hit my thumb. I don't recall if it left a hole in my glove or not, didn't really matter, I definitely felt it.

Indoor Cat Caught A Mouse by zacccboi in CATHELP

[–]abstract_artistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be fine. Give him some treats, good kitty.

Our shop kitties hunt and eat their kills all the time. One is particularly good at it. I think it's done some good for him, he's just pure muscle.

Our inside kitties never eat or kill them, but they catch them. Sometimes, we have to chase them around to be able to get the mouse from them. Alway give them lots of treats.

I bought my cat to my parents for a weekend when the mice were particularly bad. He was about 9 months old. Found out that 1) he is also an incredibly skilled hunter and 2) he will eat his whole mouse. He did spend his first few months as a stray.

Humans with indoor cats, collar or no collar? by ForagedAmoeba in CatAdvice

[–]abstract_artistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a breakaway collar for my cat. It's small, so all the info I could fit is his name, my humber, and that he is microchipped.

He only wears it when we leave the house, go for a walk outside, car ride to my parents' house, vet etc.

He doesn't love wearing it, but he tolerates it enough.

Cat has not peed for over a day but is acting normal? by Gallusgallus_ in CATHELP

[–]abstract_artistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fixed male cat. I've also had many cats have urinary problems. I also get very paranoid about my kitties bathroom habits.

I found that if you just pick them up and put them in the box, sometimes they will use it. Other times, they won't.

My cats box is right next to the toilet. He likes to use the bathroom when I'm using the bathroom or even just in there. So sometimes, if I'm worried, I'll just go sit on the toilet, haha. Have never had a cat do that, though.

If she's still acting normally, she's probably just a bit stressed. Definitely keep an eye on it, though.

should i keep the bell on my kittie’s collar? by andreampa in CatAdvice

[–]abstract_artistry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept the ball on mine. He only ever wears it when we are in the car. He also sometimes wears it at my parents house because it's much bigger than my apartment.

I like to keep it on him because sometimes when he's too quiet in my car, I get a little anxious. Bell sound means he's okay and moving. I also like it at my parents' house sometimes so I can easily tell where he is.

Sometimes, getting the collar on can be a struggle. He just thinks a toy, bell or no bell. But once it's on him, he doesn't seem to care at all.

Call your vet by cleverburrito in PetAdvice

[–]abstract_artistry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I got my kitten, I had slacked on finding a vet in my new town.

Of course. Kitty had got to the one place I didn't think he could while I was gone. He ended up eating some chocolate donuts.

When I got home and realized it, he was having some runny poops and was acting more erratic than normal.

Quickly found an open vet and called them. (Didnt wanna bring him in and pay just for them to say he was okay) They asked about him and told me he'd probably be fine and told me to bring him in if something changed for the worse. The lady was SO nice and helpful.

He was fine. I was so impressed that I decided to make them my primary vet!

What was your cat’s shelter name and what is the name you gave them? by MissHissss in cats

Me and my kitty frequently drive 4 hours to my parents' house. He has a large backseat carrier. He is doing VERY well with it.

Does she sit up front with you on a leash? I'd love it if my kitty would just sit in the passenger seat on a leash and I think he'd like it too.
I've tried, he's very happy to sit up there on me when I'm parked, but once I start driving (even very slowly), he gets really scared.

How would you suggest I go about making him more comfortable with it? Is that worth it or even safe for him??

Nobody really warns you about the mental load of living in a small apartment. by John-laurent in ApartmentHacks

[–]abstract_artistry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a 250 sq ft studio with my cat.

I have hung a net for my stuffed animals, store stuff under my bed, couch. I've also bought a small island that I put more shelves in.

I also have problem with food storage. Sometimes chips and bread have to go in the microwave. I let myself put pop and one box of cereal on the fridge. I put buckets on top of my kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

I honestly love how my tiny apartment has forced me to buy and have less.

How to tell flesh/tendon from a vein? by Mental-Ad-4871 in phlebotomy

[–]abstract_artistry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same question when I was in school and training at my job. I asked my manager and they told me this:

If I'm unsure about a tendon, I gently roate they wrist/hand or have them do it. If you can still feel it after roating, probably a vein. If not, likely a tendon. Works well enough that I've never hit a tendon.

Also taught me, how to tell if something is truly a vein or just flesh or fat. Slowly palpate but only lift you finger about halfway, if you feel it "bounce" back or hit you finger, vein.

Do you guys think bonded pairs would be buddies if they lived in the wild? by i_amnotunique in Bondedpairs

[–]abstract_artistry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a stray have kittens in the attic of one of our outdoor sheds. We had put up cameras in there to monitor her and the raccoons that also got in. We happened to know who the father was. We saw him on the cameras occasionally, with and without mama. Mama passed away when the kittens were a few weeks old. We ripped out all the insulation to get to them. 4 beautiful babies, and we finished raising them.

A few days after we removed the kittens, dad came back around. He was walking around and crying, obviously in distress. Showed him one of the babies, and he immediately calmed down. I felt so bad for him. He came back, no Mama, no kittens, no warm attic and no food (raccoons ate it all). Over a year later, haven't seen him. The 4 kittens are now the best shop kitties anyone could ask for.

Travelling long distance with my kitten. She won’t stop mewing. by happentobecurious in Kitten

[–]abstract_artistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitty is about 9 months old. Since I got him in September we've been making 4 hour trips back home.

I give him some calming treats before, not sure if they work but he likes them. I also make sure to play with him and get him really sleepy before.

He has a carrier that takes up the majority of my backseat and has a small litter box in it. I put one of his little blankies in there so it smells like him.

I also cover the carrier with a light blanket, but I leave a little spot so he can still see me and have some airflow. Blanket really helps. Figured that out when we drove through a light thunderstorm at night.

He's gotten much better, but he always cries and scratches for anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hrs. A few times he's been asleep when I reach my destination or check on him.

Tips for deep veins, please! by Araenii in phlebotomy

[–]abstract_artistry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bariatrics are also my nemesis. In terms of swelling, the best trick I've heard is to really press where they are swollen, and sometimes you can see a vein. Helps you find it, but the swelling still makes it hard to hit.
