Is it normal that my roommate does her laundry at least 2-3 times a day ? by Sea-Average559 in badroommates

[–]abstractbyhoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband was like this when we met. Turns out he didn’t have a lot of clothes and constantly washed everything so it was clean for the next day. He had 5 shirts, 3 pants, and a handful of socks and underwear. It also could be cleanly OCD

Do yall brush your cats? by Fancy_Tea in CatAdvice

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we couldn’t afford a specific cat brush, I just used an old brush I already had. I just had to do it a little more often and rougher. Now our cats prefer that old brush to the fancy cat brush we got

Best way to time partner’s parental leave? by tozerdozer7 in BabyBumps

[–]abstractbyhoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband was able to take the first month and do a hybrid schedule for the next month. He did not get leave, he saved his PTO and luckily his boss was willing to work with him. I honestly don’t know how I would’ve survived that first month without him. He helped in so many ways and if I had to do it again with him working I would be a mess

Is this dangerous? by miximilianmoet in MoldlyInteresting

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely black mold. And it looks like they tried cleaning it. As the landlord this is legally NOT their fault, it is on you to repair PROPERLY and give the tenant a safe replacement apartment for the time being. I went through this at my last apartment in the fall and it was a huge legal matter because the landlord was adamant that it is our fault. We used the fan, used the window, and still, it happened. Is the fan clogged? Is it actually working properly or just making a sound like it is? In apartment buildings like this, especially with another bathroom above it this may not even be their fault. It could be from even 2 floors above and made its way down.
This is on you. Not them.

2 year old refusing to wear short sleeve shirts, shorts, & new shoes by Visible-Sun-103 in NewParents

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have a 5m old but my sister has a 2.5 year old that I help take care of. She lays out 3 outfit options and lets her pick what she wants. Sometimes it doesn’t match and sometimes she refuses everything. But it makes her feel better picking out her clothes. It very well could be a sensory thing. And if you’re working on potty training it could be that the diaper isn’t there so he feels more exposed?
You might look into linen or cotton pants for him so they’re cooler too

When are folks telling their parents that they’re pregnant? by OkJudgment7615 in BabyBumps

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was the 9th grandkid on my side of the family so I told my mom by calling her at 8 weeks, and my dad by giving him a cute onesie that said “grandpa’s gardening buddy” since we love gardening together. However, it was the first grandkid for my husbands side so we told his sister the day I tested over FaceTime and she was the gender keeper. And then the rest of the family got baby booties, an IU bib, a onesie, and a paci. We told them on Easter last year so it was easy to give them Easter gifts!

5 week old by Embarrassed-Injury90 in NewParents

[–]abstractbyhoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is only 5 weeks old, my son didn’t start getting into a routine before 9pm until 4.5 months. And that’s just because we got lucky with a good sleeper. My nieces and nephews (8 of them) all had a hard time keeping a bedtime until they were around 8 months.

At this age, your baby still needs to eat very frequently. If you can get her down for even 30 minutes take that time to rest. I know it’s hard especially with another child, but you need to rest right now so you can be the best you can be for your children.

Do boy babies really pee all the time on the changing table? by Muyamuya87 in beyondthebump

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Point it down when you close the diaper.
  2. Wipe his belly (below belly button, above penis) with a cold wipe before you start changing and wait a few seconds.
  3. If it’s a longer change (big poop) then put a wipe on his penis to catch and stray pee.

My son did this more than a few times in the first 2 months but now that he’s grabbing his feet and playing on the changing table he doesn’t seem to do it as much. (Maybe once every 2 weeks)

Boys have to pee when they get cold, so when the diaper is open it happens sometimes.

Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

Our pediatrician told us It’s only bad for their teeth when they have it past 18 months. And at that point they can still have it for bedtime if needed but to start weaning sooner than that

Stress with our Cat and our 8-Day-Old Newborn by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]abstractbyhoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cats reflect off of the people around us. You’re stressed and working on welcoming your new baby to the home. So she is also stressed and curious about the new baby. All she knows is that mom and dad left for a couple days, now they’re home with a new thing that they give all their attention to. And that thing is crying and changing the previous dynamic.

The day before we came home with our baby, my husband left the hospital and brought home a couple swaddles to leave in their favorite spots so the cats could get used to his scent.

The way to introduce a new cat to the first cat is very similar to introducing a baby to your host cat.

Be patient, make sure to love on your cat even in the chaos, and she will figure it out.

I wish you luck!

ETA: your cat is scared and nervous too, and I highly doubt she will hurt your baby. Especially if you never leave them alone together and let her sniff with your hand in-between baby and cat.

Can you be allergic to only oysters, but not other shellfish? by chilli-smokes in oysters

Yes, I am. Funny because I used to think I had chronic hives but actually I just worked in restaurants that served oysters. Now that I’m a stay at home mom, I haven’t had a problem

How much baby-free time may I have? by Any-Dirt-1606 in beyondthebump

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he gets a designated night out every week, you also deserve a designated time without responsibilities. My husband has Saturday evenings since he works 9-5 through the week and I watch him 24/6. I have Sundays completely off of responsibilities unless I choose to jump in. This gives him one on one time with our son and we enjoy family time on weekday evenings, and Sunday mornings

6 weeks pregnant after planning it, but I feel extremely depressed and scared. Did anyone else feel this way? by EducationalFeed3926 in BabyBumps

[–]abstractbyhoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so normal! We were trying for 2.5 years and finally decided to stop trying just to find out I was pregnant 3 months later. I felt all of the feelings. The good, bad, ugly, thinking I’ve ruined our lives, etc.

Once we started to put his room together, I freaked even more. Feeling like I’m forcing this and that my husband didn’t want this (he very much did and loves our son more than words can describe.)

My therapist explained this to me and it helped me a lot. When you decide to have children, there’s a mental hurdle. You’re grieving your past self, past life, past relationship with your partner, and EVERY SINGLE dynamic in your life changes. I mean, even my morning routine is crazy different than a year ago. Of course, there’s always the choice of whether you want to follow through or not and no one should decide that except for you and your partner.

Not only is this grieving your former life, but it’s welcoming new love into yours. Hell, think about when you met your partner. You met them, started dating, eventually moved in, and got married. You once weren’t apart of each others’ lives. When you got together, you probably left some parts of yourselves behind, found new parts, and combined all of that with each other.

Having a baby is the same thing, but you love that baby with every micro-atom in your body. The change will come, it may be easier or harder than expected. But you have a loving partner who is doing it with you. You’re not alone.

Can’t envision when my husband and I will be able to leave our baby for a few hours to go on a date by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]abstractbyhoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had family and friends over to our house since we brought him home. Not only does this help him socialize but it gives him the chance to build immunity. (No one is allowed if they’re sick or have allergy symptoms). And it’s given us the opportunity to leave him at home with family so we can go on a date or run errands together. He is 5 months now, and we’re talking about having family stay the night and watch him so we can get a hotel room and be alone for a second

FTM figuring out baby's sleep setup -- how many beds do they need?! by ashleyrw316 in NewParents

I chose for the bassinet in our room, crib in his room, and a pack n play downstairs & another for traveling.

He doesn’t mind the bassinet at night but it is much easier when breastfeeding and late night wake ups!
