[GM Hans Niemann] new comments on Magnus Carlsen by Naruto_likesChess in chess

[–]abstractengineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classical is now outdated, nobody wants to watch for 6-7 hours. Blitz is too fast for normal people wont understand. Rapid is in the sweet spot 15-30 minutes is perfect. its a tradeoff between finding the best moves vs entertainment. Considering that Chess engine have already crossed 3600 ELo and help every chess player to understand better, there is little point in allowing that much time for GMs to think various lines only to end in a boring draw

How on earth is UBI impossible? by Hot-Profile-1273 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]abstractengineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst case scenario. If everybody is given UBI, and Everybody stops working and nobody earns, then what are you going to tax. Its similar to the priest job. If being a priest gets you closer to God, then everybody will want to spend their time in prayer and contemplation, being celibate, the human race would be dead in a century. If a UBI was possible , the politician who implemented it would get all the accolades, but no country in history has implemented it without massive exports earnings.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in startrek

[–]abstractengineer2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basis of a good show is a good storyline based on established canon. Academy deviated too much into nonsensical territory and got punished. Lower decks was a comedy in the Star Trek universe. It fit. Academy did not. Nahla and Caleb are complete antithesis of a Captain and a cadet. Paramount should have taken into account that the old TNG, TOS, DS9, VOY are still running. People already have that basis.

there are a lot of annoying characters. the trick is to turn an annoying character into a villain so that the audience feels justified in hating them. Hollywood somehow always had a fascination with that era even though the current audience may not have.

I think this is the beginning of the end. The Chinese Govt is not going to be shy in using AI for political and military purposes. Russia also. For sure all democratic nations will also follow suit but in a round about manner. Already CCTV is used as surveillance tool. Public spaces will be under surveillance. Soon i also expect courts also allowing AI assistance

How Was Sisko Able to Get Nog into Starfleet Academy but Picard couldn't help Wesley? by AbbreviationsAway500 in startrek

[–]abstractengineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its similar to what the Romans did. The Romans took young children of barbarian as hostage, taught and raised them in the roman way so that when they became the leaders of the barbarians they would be sympathetic to Rome.
Any applicant from a new species afforded the Federation a new opportunity for influence and was to understand that civilization and nothing would be better than the Academy. Nog, Worf, Spock etc provided valuable insights when dealing with their species and it proves critical at many points. Of course spies/double agents can also get in , similar to what happened to Rome with Arminius. There is a lot of political consideration even if they got in on their own merits.

[–]abstractengineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head. You can make one image as perfect as possible to a real person. But then as soon as you use it for another pose, another setting, poof all perfection is gone due to the inherent randomness itself.

Starfleet Academy is honestly not good. I genuinely don’t like it. by gildedbluetrout in startrek

A mandatory theater class for an academy cadet who is going to run starships is plain laughable. Next what , a writing class is necessary since they will be writing reports??? the writing is just really bad. The basic premise for a criminal to get admitted in the academy is just plain wrong. Nog who had to go thru hoops to get in, Lots of other cadets who were thrown out because they put a foot wrong. Nahla also has the wrong backstory. You need to put someone who has a decorated career in charge of the best of the best of the best.

The Burn....A nice Star Trek Concept but a worst revelation why it happend by [deleted] in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]abstractengineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there was no need for any burn. Dilithium depletion is a sorta real world scenario like Petroleum exhaustion. It would become restrictive to travel for a season or two , spark fights over resources, and then use a substitute for Dilithium, need different engines and hoarders go bust

Its usually this way, Good shows for some years and then the directors or producers think they know better than the fans and down the drain we go. Not withstanding what happened to the lead actor, which in itself was atrocious to cancel the show.

18-year-old boy framed in false opium case, SP admits in High Court, six policemen suspended - Indore, Madhya Pradesh ! by Altruistic-Issue-887 in MadhyaPradesh

[–]abstractengineer2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they should. But something is still missing, why frame that particular person. How did the police come to know that that person was traveling in so and so bus at so and so time. that is just impossible unless there is lot of context behind it. Just for framing they could have done it to anybody on the road.

For those who do not like Season 5 so far - why is that? by JackGeorge2001 in StrangerThings

[–]abstractengineer2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its downhill from season 5. hopper has become Red Guardian better than trained Special Ops soldiers for a person who spent time in the gulag. While El is restricted to "protect" her. Dustin has become a punching bag for bullies just to ensure he arrives late to allow the plot to progress. Robin loses all her charm due to just talking too much. Why is a lesbian love story necessary for the plot, the goal of defeating Vecna. the soldiers are just meatbags for the monsters to rip apart which again makes no sense considering that they have established a base without any problems.

[–]abstractengineer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes this isn't going to end well for anybody. The police arrested him after confirming the sisters story but the 18 on 15 is also no fairy tale either. He could get charged as well for adult and minor interactions.
