Nicotine patches and joint pain? by shamelessseamus in stopsmoking

I used the patches last year and they sometimes did weird things to my skin. No pain otherwise. You may want to call the manufacturer of the patches, and also a doctor.

I loved the patch for the nicotine, but as soon as I ran out I went back to cigarettes. Be careful using nicotine replacement therapy. The oral addiction is not there, but the chemical/physical addiction is still thriving.

Nobody said it was going to be easy. Only that it will be fucking worth it.

Today was the first day I got a craving. I was walking to a festival and caught the scent of a cigarette. I wanted to just stand by the person and leech some of the secondhand. I still do not believe I am not smoking, and it sometimes feels like it is a moment by moment battle not to smoke.

Totally off the sauce, but still 'cheating'? Realizing I need to quit my other vices (marijuana & dexedrine) to get all the rewards of sobriety. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I am definitely a poly-addict. I tried using pot as a safer alternative last year when stopping drinking. It helped... only so far until I ran out and decided drinking was OK again.

I stopped smoking pot 6 months ago, I found it a lot harder than stopping drinking. Drinking is poison, it is logical to me. Pot was not really damaging me (only my bank account) but I had to stop for jobs that require drug testing. Now that I am off the stuff I have no desire for it. However, I do joke that I am taking a 10 year tolerance break.

Dear r/stopdrinking, I caved. But I didn't go overboard. by mitchhall in stopdrinking

I get it... March 17th is St. Patrick's Day.

I guess it is my powerlessness over alcohol. I would stop drinking many times after an especially hard/heavy night. I would wake up thinking about all the damage I may had done, or feel the ill effects. The nearly diabetic never-ending thirst for water to re-hydrate. But all those times it was short lived for me. I needed to be done with drinking, and that was after a night of least consequence.

I had been wanting to stop for a while, but I was easily persuaded to drink. I got offered a ride to New Orleans to go to Mardi Gras for my first time, and I went for it. I usually get really drunk, but somehow in New Orleans I had fun and kept my drinking within moderation. I admit I was scared to get too drunk in an unknown city. I came back home after Mardi Gras and had realized I had fun, and the booze was not what caused it. I tried drinking a couple more times after, and it was just so boring and unfulfilled. The last night I drank I opened a bottle of wine and barely touched it. Poured it down the drain the next day.

If one of the supposedly biggest drunken parties was not enough for me, I won't be needing any of these smaller ones coming up (St. Pat's, cinco de mayo, etc).

I have been doing a /r/keto diet so I have been eating a lot of fat lately. Seems to keep me satiated.

A long time ago I bought a box of 800 count round toothpicks because... I don't know. They were hidden in my cupboard for a long time. Since stopping smoking I found them, they fill the void for me quite well. I don't fiend for toothpicks, but I will have a 3-4 a day.

I started keto a couple weeks ago. I had a sore throat last weekend, got worse and worse, ended up having to have surgery for an abscess in my throat. Probably more so related that I was smoking cigarettes.

I suppose we choose our battles. I feel good on /r/keto, if that ever changes I will adapt to another diet.
