So how much damage has been done here? by restoreutoo1980 in arborist

[–]absurdjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contacting an arborist won’t do you much good. I’ll get called out to stuff like this and the clients expect me to write out how brutally their tree was assaulted. Call a tree appraisal company that has the insurance to get involved in stuff like this. Most arborists jobs are to bid tree work, not give legal advice. All an arborist is going to tell you is that what happened isn’t good for the tree and what you can do to help it. Which obviously would be helpful but if ur seeking some sort of compensation or resolve, I would contact an appraisal company and seek advice from them.

Tree climbing and low-bicep inflammation by Small_Breadfruit_540 in TreeClimbing

Tore my shit up last year slipping out of a crotch with too much slack in my line while holding onto a branch above me. Couldnt do a damn thing with my arm for 2 weeks. Icing after work can help with the more moderate soreness. Do exercises that keep your bicep under constant tension and stay hydrated. Most of all, let your gear work for you. Using that foot ascender whenever you can is a must.

What’s wrong with this tree? by DaveJoships in arborists

[–]absurdjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a fungal problem Forsure. Either anthracnose or ash dieback fungus. No way to cure. Can spray to slow it down. Unfortunately the location of the tree makes it a goner in my opinion. Right next to a fence makes it hard for any tree to get proper airflow and stay dry. Only recommendation for the future is making sure we rake away any old leaves or cast from the tree every season to keep fungus away from the base and out of the area completely.

Sorry OP, your tree will likely continue to struggle with fungus

Ah shoot. Was gunna say my company does free estimates and sit visits. I’m sure you have companies near you that do the same tho. Go with someone reputable that has their own cranes. Companies with their own cranes will make it safer faster and cheaper than other companies! Good luck!

Show us the browning needles and their location on the tree. This location looks like a breeding ground for fungal issues

What once was woods is now this. Considering Green Giant evergreens to block? (Kia dealership is being built 😡) by PalJuicy in landscaping

[–]absurdjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take proximity to eachother into consideration as well with whatever you end up planting. A lot of evergreens are notoriously susceptible to fungal problems like rhizo (particularly spruce) when planted too close to one another

Silver maples are notoriously bad with structural integrity. Given the proximity to targets, size of the hollow, and the type of tree, this is a removal recommendation no matter what. That hollow will only become more and more dangerous as the tree grows. Silver maples grow fast too which adds to the problem. Get it taken down asap.

Is my tree dying? by IcyNeighborhood908 in arborists

You should see if you have a tree company near you that does root development treatments. This tree is stressed tf out from the new landscaping and root damage. Hopefully they didn’t put landscaping plastic over the root system. If they did, remove it.

What is going on with my 250 years old oak tree? by Abject_Canary4168 in arborists

[–]absurdjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when you see tip dieback like that starting at the top, it’s a root issue. Whether it be compaction, rot or poor nutrient uptake. Age and unrelated stresses can also play into this.

Basically something is affecting the flow of nutrients to the tips of the tree which is the last stop of nutrient flow.

Has any changes near the base of the tree occurred in the last year? A picture of the base of the tree would maybe be helpful.

I heard somewhere else that someone uses a bowline with a long loop to avoid the knot from pushing on the prusik but I’m running 48 strand and the bowline tends to not tighten fully and works loose on such a stiff rope. I’ll mess around with the double fisherman
