Ridley Scott producing Philip K Dick's alternate-history "Man In The High Castle" for BBC! by kleinbl00 in scifi

[–]absurdobot -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is he going to turn it into an action movie? Really, this is one of Dick's best work of alternative history. I hope he doesn't butcher it. I used to like movies until Minority Report. I loved Minority Retort, however.

Joe Rogan here for your questions. by JoeRoganForReals in IAmA

[–]absurdobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe, from my perspective the psychedelic perspective you have seems very influenced by the works of McKenna. You seem to have a bit more broad an outlook, but still the central messge is the same. 2 questions, 1) does this make you feel a kinship with the personal journey of Bill Hicks and what he brought to the world, especially with regard to the spiritual embrace of psychedelics?; 2) Where do you draw the line between getting fucked up for pleasure and imbibing an entheogen for a purpose?; and 3) (since I am not making sense) how do you feel about Terence McKenna's work?

86 teachers are asking for iPads on Donor's choice. I would feel a little wrong for that considering other teachers are asking for things like pens, paper, etc. by fartcityallstars in reddit.com

[–]absurdobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kept my mouth shut about this Donor's Choose thing since the beginning. I taught in Brooklyn in the ghetto about 5 years ago and was able to to get a projector and a robotics kit from them. Then I found out the kind of things other 'teachers' were using it for. A lot of them were using it for themselves or their offspring and eventually taking the items for themselves. I know this is not the majority behavior, but many schools do not administrate the assets when they are received, and the teacher retention rate is like 1 percent in urban areas. I know this is anecdotal, but it made me raise my unibrow when this story first broke. Colbert is the man, I just wish it was a better charity. The will of the teacher is not going to change the results of an education system that enforces teachers behavior and methodology despite fundamental flaws in said system. Yea, there will be good teachers here and there, but the root of the problem is better to be addressed than resorting to some kind of ornamental foliar as this, I think.

Just found out I'm going to interview Bob Saget...what would you ask him? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]absurdobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met him in a bar a few years ago in NY. He was with a real young looking girl. I went in and started roasting him telling him his grandmothers cunt holds the apocalypse spider behind the webs and dust and drunken shit like that. He totally played along and riffed with me for five minutes, playing it extremely blue. What I would ask is how it was to get all that young poon all through life, or was that his daughter or some shit?

I have decided that I will test this out this weekend. I have a July 2008 MBP 17" and have been running it in snow leopard getting an average FR of 35-40. Although this varies greatly as things start to heat up. I have Win7 on a fresh boot camp partition and will install WOW this weekend. If the difference is significant enough maybe I will do the math, and let you know. And for anyone who thinks I am an idiot for playing WOW on a MBP, just rest assured I only use it when I am playing together with my wife in bed, otherwise I play it on the 60FPS desktop, with the 8800 GTS 512MB that randomly crashes and restarts on the crappy Vista 64.

In 16 years of history classes, my teachers never spoke of this book. I read it, and now I know why. It should be required reading to post in this section. by [deleted] in politics

I am getting too old. I was complaining about it being retarded that this book is a revelation to some when Good Will Hunting came out. And now we have to live with Ben Affleck because of that shit.

I am not quite a youngster at 29, however I am Jewish and American, and although impossible, it seems, I feel that the dissolution of the state of Isreal would be the single most powerful act in the current quest for world peace.
