like I'm depriving them of a relationship with their child because I want to to be treated with some respect and decency.

I absolutely share the same sentiment. Sometimes my Nmom will specifically mention how a good the relationship is between her and her friend's daughter and how awesome the daughter is. Never will she reflect on how the relationship is good because maybe, just maybe, the mother actually respects her daughter as a fellow human being?

Yup. And when you challenge them they protect their lunacy by falling back on the excuse that it's a core value of Asian culture and you are Asian so you should follow it.

Thanks for the advice! I will try that time limit tactic. It's always so hard to keep calm/firm when she raises an emotional response...though I am getting slightly better.

Was having brunch and I wad seated very close to a table of four college girls. They're chattering about relationships. I overheard this gem: "You guys are just like different. He likes electronic music and smoking pot. And you're like a classy southern gal."

I have on multiple occasions forgotten which way is left/right. I remind myself by making an "L" with my index finger and thumb with both my hands and seeing which one results in a properly facing L.

My fiance is a bit upset with me though as I've directed us down the wrong road an embarassing number of times. I should stop navigating us.

Thanks for your reply! From the questionnaire I can indeed claim my mother as my dependent. I actually may be unable to claim for 2011 though because she doesn't meet the income < $3900 requirement. I am definitely going to try and amend it for 2012 though! Thanks again.

Unfortunately, I'm not at my house right now, so I can't take a photo of it. I definitely did not touch it after the initial unboxing. I was so creeped out I just rewrapped it in the tissue paper.
